A Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has confirmed the victory of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as winner of senatorial election in Oyo South district.
Alli contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was declared the winner of the senatorial election held on Saturday 25th February, by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
However, candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Joseph Tegbe and his counterpart from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Funmilayo Gbogbolomo challenged Alli’s victory at the tribunal.
But the tribunal dismissed the petitions filed by the PDP and NNPP candidates and affirmed Alli’s victory.
The duo later approached the Court of Appeal after the judgement of the tribunal.
The Court of Appeal, however, on Friday, affirmed the victory of the APC senator.
The Court of Appeal dismissed Tegbe’s appeal on the grounds that it lacked merit, affirming the judgment of the tribunal.
It also dismissed Gbogbolomo’s appeal.
The judges unanimously dismissed the appeals by the duo.
