Amnesty Office To Hold Vocational Training For Ex-Militants

The Presidential Amnesty Office has said that it would soon activate the Oil and Gas Vocational Training Centre in Agadagba, Ondo State, as part of efforts to provide ex-agitators with relevant skills.

It explained that beneficiaries of the programme would include those who had yet to be placed in vocational training facilities or deployed for formal education.

The Special Assistant on Media to the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Office, Mr. Murphy Ga‎nagana, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin, Edo State, also said that the Power and Energy Vocational Centre in Bomadi, Delta State, would soon commence operation.

Ganagana said that no fewer than 11,297 ex-agitators are said to be awaiting training, out of the over 300,000 delegates registered under the amnesty programme, since the appointment of Prof. Charles Dokubor as the coordinator of the office in March 2018.

He, however, explained that while 1,537 graduated from institutions of learning abroad, 207 others were currently studying various courses outside the country.

According to him, 34 law graduates, under the amnesty programme, would be called to the bar in November.

He also said that 2,633 other beneficiaries were currently studying in higher institutions in the country.
