The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has taken decisive action to enforce lecture time regulations and restrict classes duration.
This was disclosed to our correspondent in a statement released on Friday, January 31st, issued by the institution’s registrar, K.A. Bakare on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simeone Bamire to all the academic staff.
In the statement, the Vice-Chancellor directed the lecturers to refrain from the habit of scheduling lectures for as early as 6:00 a.m and for as late as 7:00 pm.
“This is to remind all academic staff that the official hours for lectures in the University are between 8:00 a.m and 6:00 p.m,” the VC stated.

Meanwhile, this development came after the Great Ife Students’ Representative Council (S.R.C) had earlier complained about the lecture time regulations on Tuesday, January 28th.
In a statement signed by the Great Ife Students Representatives Council Speaker, Oladapo Olakunke; Deputy Speaker, David Joshua; and the Clerk, Alawode Ewaoluwa; the Students’ body lamented that departure from lecture schedule principles disrupts the balance between academic and other essential aspects of students’ lives.
The statement reads partly, “The Students’ Leadership expressed that “scheduling lecture during lecture free week undermines its intended purpose and robs students of the opportunity to consolidate their learning.
“We call on the university administration and the Division of Student Affairs to immediately address these concerns.
“The Great Ife Students’ Union remains steadfast in our advocacy for policies that prioritize the welfare and academic success of all students and going forward, we will not hesitate to take decisive actions to protect the rights and interests of our members should normalcy not be restored.”
