2019 Presidency, The Call For Restructuring Including Other Interesting Newspaper Headlines Today

The race for presidency in the forthcoming general elections next year took another dimension over the weekend with the call for restructuring coming from Ethnic Interest groups across the country providing another dimension to the politicking that has continued to garner full force.

The Punch leads with 2019 Presidency, Condition For Alliance, Southern Groups tell Northern Elders with the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere and the Ijaw Youth council saying that restructuring must be central to the plan by the North to form an alliance with zones in the South for presidency in 2019.

It takes another twist in The Nation with 2019: Governors Shun Obasanjo’s Coalition as the paper writes that Governors are yet to identify with the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) – former President Olusegun Obasnajo’s antidote to Nigeria’s leadership quandary.

And according to a PDP governor who spoke to newshounds, “Nobody wants to leave a known party for the unknown and risk his political career. CNM cannot fly in spite the fact that its ultimate target is to turn to a political party.”

Nigerian Tribune captions its version as 2019: Buhari Gets Conditions for S/West Votes as APC plans automatic ticket for him, NWC may get tenure extension. It was learnt that while the original idea to be presented by the leaders was a restructuring exercise, the need to side-step the controversies associated with the nomenclature led to the coinage of the word “devolution.”

Another one from the New Telegraph reads 2019 Presidency: APC, Govs, Ministers Oppose Amaechi as Buhari’s DG with the Minister saying Majority are working with me. The newspaper writes Major stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have kicked against the reappointment of the Minister of Transportation, Hon Rotimi Amaechi as the Director-General of the President’s Campaign Organization in the 2019 election.

Vanguard leads with Fuel Crisis: PDP, APC in verbal war over President’s role with the riders Buhari should quit as Minister of Petroleum – PDP, They don’t know the workings of the Presidency – APC, PIGB meaningless with President as minister – Group.

Daily Independent’s front page headline is captioned My Life Under Threat Over Anti-Grazing Law, says Ortom as Herdsmen Kill Four In Southern Kaduna, Kill Two Policemen In Benue while OPC Moves Against Herders In Ondo.

The Police Service Commission is raising an alarm that over 150,000 policemen are on unauthorised duty. Daily Sun reports the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Mike Okiro as expressing disappointment at the practise where persons who served as ministers for over 10 to 15 years still go about with police security.
