2 LAUTECH Doctors Test Positive For COVID-19

(LAUTECH), Osogbo, State of Osun have tested positive to the ravaging Coronavirus pandemic.

OSUN DEFENDER authoritatively gathered that the doctors might have contracted the virus from an ophthalmology patient with COVID-19 symptoms, from Lagos.

The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr RafiuIsamotu confirmed the status of the doctors.

According to Isamotu, who spoke with the medium on Wednesday, a total of 65 workers of LAUTECH were tested for the virus.

Isamotu disclosed that the two doctors were part of the 65 people that underwent the test.  

It was gathered that the patient, from who the doctors might have contracted the virus, was referred to LAUTECH from Lagos State for an ophthalmological surgery.

However, there was apprehension among medical personnel in the hospital when they discovered that the patient presented Coronavirus.

Consequently, the patient was sent to the General Hospital, Asubiaro, isolation centre for test and he was positive.

According to sources, the patient has eventually died on Sunday.

It was gathered that 14 persons including medical personnel and patients present at the optical clinic have been quarantined.

As at the time of filing this report, the optical clinic and all other clinics in the hospital have been shut since last Thursday. Only emergency section is open for operation.

The state government has fumigated the hospital premises for disinfection.

The State government yesterday  announced 17 new cases of COVID-19 in the state, increasing the figure of victims to 84.

Of the 84, 47 have recovered; five have died while 33 were still receiving treatment at the COVID-19 centre at the Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo.
