The Kano State command police command has arrested 12 suspects including would-be-couple over alleged theft, extortion and snatching of mobile phones among other crimes.

The suspects, comprising seven males and five females were said to have been terrorising residents of Maidile quarters and other communities in Kumbotso local government area of the state.

Parading the suspects before newsmen, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Magaji Musa Majia, said items recovered from the suspects include three knives, two pairs of scissors, three solar panels, drugs, a Jincheng motorcycle, wraps of Indian hemp, cough syrup and sticks.

According to Majia, the preliminary investigation had shown that the house where the suspects were arrested was allocated to them by an elder brother to one of the suspects.

He said the would-be-couple found among the suspects fled from Katsina to Kano after their parents refused to approve their request to get married.

“A good Samaritan tipped off the police about the activities of the suspects. The suspects have been terrorising people of Gandun Albasa, Tukuntawa, Ja’oji, Unguwar Geza, Sabuwar Mandawari, Tudun Maliki and Shagari quarters,’’ Majia said.

However, some of the female suspects denied involvement in any criminal activity as alleged by the police, saying they were lured into the house from a night club by their friends.
