No fewer than 10 villagers were reportedly killed in an airstrike allegedly carried out by Nigerien Air Force in pursuit of Boko Haram insurgents in a Yobe community.
This was revealed by hospital personal and security sources in the community.
Sources informed the Nigerien Air Force launched an air strike on Buhari village in Yunusari Local Government, north of Yobe from Damaturu, the state capital following a hot chase of some Boko Haram elements that entered the village.
A source at Geidam General Hospital told The Nation over 20 wounded villagers have been brought to the hospital with various degree of injuries.
The source added that about 10 people have been feared killed in the attack.
“We have admitted over 20 people at the Geidam General Hospital as at the time I am talking to you now.
“As for the number of deaths, no death was brought to the hospital but we learnt that over ten people were killed in the village,” the source stressed.
A vigilante source informed that the jet belongs to Nigerien Air Force.
“From what we heard, it is the Nigerien Air Force pursuing Boko Haram into that village. The casualty is high but no one is sure of the figure,” the source informed.
The Chairman of Yunusari Local Government Alhaji Bukar Gaji confirmed the incident but could not give details of the casualty.
