UNIBEN Students Honour Aregbesola, Salaam, Others

Ogbeni AregbesolaThe National Association of Osun State Students(NAOSS), University of Benin Chapter last week honoured the Osun State governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Honourable Najeem Salam and others who have contributed immensely to the development of the state.
Other prominent citizens honoured were Senator Mudashiru Hussein, representing Osun West Senatorial District, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) State Acting Chairman, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi, Honourable Lasun Yusuf, representing Osogbo/Olorunda/Orolu/Irepodun Federal Constituency, the popular artist and musician, Sulimon Ayilara (Ajobiewe).
Aregbesola and others were honoured at the annual Osun festival and public lecture to mark the 20 years’ anniversary of the creation the state.
According to the President of the Association, Comrade Wale Adeyemo, Aregbesola and others were honoured by the association in recognition of the government’s people-oriented programmes and to encourage them to do more.
He stated that the association decided to honour the governor on the creation of jobs for 20,000 youths through the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) and the reduction of the tuition fees in the state-owned tertiary institutions, especially Osun State University.
Adeyemo said,”as we are celebrating the 20 years of existence of the state, it is important to give honour to those who deserved it, which informed the decision of NAOSS UNIBEN chapter to honour our amiable governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on hisefforts torestore the past glory of the state”.
“Governor Aregbesola has no doubt changed the orientation of the people in the state through the rebranding, OYES, O’CLEAN, O’REAP, among others,which has given the state a unique identity among other states”.
The students’ president however, used the occasion to call on the governor to review the students’ bursary awards payment system, state scholarships and grants, arguing that those schooling outside the state are not benefiting much.
The guest speaker, Honourable Akintoyese Ismael, while discussing on “ Progressive: The Way, The Truth and the Economic Transformation”, took the exception of the government performance in Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Edo, Ekiti and Ogun States as the symbols of social welfare postulated by Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
He said the philosophy of progressive party is people first, and how to better their lots through educational, economic and political transformation found on a principle of justice and equality.
Receiving the award on behalf of the governor, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matter, Honourable Bisi Odewumi commended the NAOSS UNIBEN chapter for the merit award and said the government will not relent in its effort to transform the state.
