Boko Haram: PDP Faults Buhari’s Success Claims

The Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to rejoice over the alleged defeat of the Boko Haram sect.
The party also enjoined the President to do more in order to stop the killings in Southern Kaduna and intensify the war against the Boko Haram foot soldiers.
Recall that the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, on Monday disclosed that Sambisa forest would now serve as training ground for officers of the Nigerian Army as from next year.
According to the PDP, it would be wrong for Buhari to claim victory recorded by the Armed Forces in the takeover of the Sambisa Forest from the Boko Haram.
The leading opposition party opined that former President Goodluck Jonathan played a crucial role while in government to defeat the sect.
Spokesperson for the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led committee, Dayo Adeyeye, made this remark while speaking with newsmen on Monday.
Adeyeye also said the claim by the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government on the fall of the forest was yet to be independently verified.

The former minister of state for works said, “The President cannot solely claim responsibility for the success he claimed the Armed Forces recorded in reclaiming Sambisa Forest from the Boko Haram.
“This is because the regime of former President Jonathan had done a lot in the war against terror.
“This was why elections were held in almost all the local government areas in Borno State and the entire North-East in 2015.
“Though there has been no independent verification of the claim, the President ought to give kudos to the regime of Jonathan that bought the weapons being used to fight the war.”
Adeyeye added that it would be too early to claim victory over the terror group, saying the killing of a suicide bomber and the arrest of another in Borno State were testimonies that the war was not over yet.
“We are all aware that propaganda is a tool being used by this government to deceive Nigerians. We hope this is also not another one,” he added.
“We should ask the President why he keeps quiet over the activities of the killer herdsmen. What is he doing about it?
“The herdsmen are now the number four terror group in the world. Nigerians should ask the President to act,” he added.

The Chief of Army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Burutail, has assured the Governor of Abia State that the  Nigeria military will continue to patronise made in Aba materials, including uniforms and boots.

General Buratai gave the assurance when he led a delegation of High ranking military officers on a courtesy visit to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the Government house, Umuahia.

According to him, the military has directed their suppliers to emphasize on made in Nigeria, stressing that the patronage was motivated by the Governor’s letter he received months ago.

He thanked the Governor for the excellent relationship existing between the Army and the good people of Abia State.

The army boss said that he is in Abia to assess the progress of the “operation python dance” which the Military launched to mark her end of the year training activities.

He also assured his host and the people of Abia State that “Operation Python Dance” is a peaceful engagement that builds synergy between the army and other security agencies.

The army chief emphasized that the army is not out to intimidate or harass anybody, stressing that Nigerian army and other security services belong to the Nigerian people, and promised that the army will  not intimidate law abiding citizen, adding that  the security of law abiding Nigerians is the primary concern of the army.

General Burutai who is visiting the state for the first time since his appointment stated that the Nigerian Army has succeeded in maintaining peace in the country as well as defending Nigerian territories against external aggression.

Responding, Governor Ikpeazu thanked the military for their support to his administration’s push to boost patronage of made in Aba products.  He observed that the Leadership of the Army under Lt General Buratai, has performed well in internal security operations, especially in the volatile north east region of the country.

Governor Ikpeazu also told his guest that he believes his visit to Abia will further boost the morale of soldiers and other residents of Abia state.
Governor Ikpeazu further  cautioned Nigerians to respect one another regardless of the position they find themselves.

The high point of the courtesy visit was the donation of 2 new Hilux vehicles to the Military Chief by the Governor, which was eventually handed over to Brig. Gen. Lawrence Fejokwu of the 14 brigade barrack at Ohafia, Abia State by the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen. Buratai.  Brigadier General Fejokwu assured that the vehicles will be utilized for the benefit of good people of Abia.

Shekau Is “Mad”, Buratai Declares

Tukur Buratai, a lieutenant-colonel and chief of army staff, says Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram leader, is “on his way to his waaterloo”.

Speaking on Monday when he paid a courtesy call on Jubrilla Bindow, governor of Adamawa state, Buratai said that the fight against insurgency had reached an advanced stage.

Asked to react to the video posted by Shekau on Sunday where he claimed to be alive and in good health, Buratai said: “He, Shekau, is a mad man.

“We don’t have anything to tell him; he is on his way to his waterloo.’’

Buratai said the army had stabilised the security situation in the north-east.

He called on the federal government and government of the affected states to give priority attention to issues of peace building, reconstruction and humanitarian needs.

“There is need to ameliorate the challenges of the IDPs,” he said.

“The major challenge now is humanitarian; we call on the government to provide the needed facilities to enable the IDPs return to their communities.”

While speaking, Bindow praised the army for degrading the insurgents and promised to continue supporting military operations.

On Sunday, the army had said Shekau’s latest video was proof of its suspicion that the insurgent was “mentally sick and unstable”.

“The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a video clip released by the so-called Abubakar Shekau faction of the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists group this morning,” Sani Usman, spokesman of the army, said.

“In it, the purported leader of the group in his usual insane manner made all sorts of assertions to the point of threatening various towns, groups and individuals. He also tried, albeit failingly, to deny the air raid by the Nigerian Air Force in which he was wounded.

“The video has shown beyond all reasonable doubt the earlier suspicion that the purported factional terrorists group leader is mentally sick and unstable. The ranting is also another sign that the end is near for him which is part of the signs of all wicked people.”

Zaria Shiites Massacre: Panel Recommends Prosecution Of Army General

The judicial commission of inquiry that investigated the December 12 -14, 2015 clash between the Nigerian Army and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites has recommended the prosecution of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1st Division of the Army in Kaduna, Major Gen. Adeniyi Oyebade.

According to Premium Times, an online news site, the commission in its report which was submitted to Governor Nasir El-Rufai last Friday, accused the GOC of authorising the military operation that led to the killing of 347 members of the Islamic group in Zaria, Kaduna state.

The 13-member panel headed by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, while submitting the report did not make its finding public; however, Premium Times which claimed to have obtained a copy of the commission`s report revealed that Oyebade was indicted for deploying “soldiers to carry out such a large scale operation without recourse to the chain of command.”

The Shiite and the army had clashed on December 12 when the Islamic group in the course of observing one of their religious rites, blocked the highway in Zaria, preventing the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, who was in the city for the Passing Out Parade of the Army Depot, from moving.

The incident later led to a face-off between the army and the Shiite members, leading to the killing of many members of the Islamic group.

Several others were injured while the residence of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky was destroyed.

Zakzaky, his wife and several members of the group were arrested.

While Zakzaky and his wife are still being detained, over 200 of his followers who are in prison custody have been charged to court.

According to Premium Times, “the GOC of the Army’s 1st Division, Kaduna, Mr. Oyebade, deployed soldiers to carry out such a large scale operation without recourse to the chain of command.

The Kaduna state government had revealed during proceedings of the panel that 349 victims of the incident were buried in a mass grave. The Panel visited the mass grave located at the Mando area of Kaduna metropolis.

According to Premium Times, the panel described the treatment of the corpses as undignified, noting: “the commission was unable to determine the causes of death of the deceased victims owing to the mass burial conducted by the state without any autopsy, the report found

“The panel said the burial of all corpses of male and female Muslims in one grave violated Islamic traditions and other relevant burial laws of Kaduna State and Rule 115 of the Geneva Convention” the online medium added.

The commission, according to Premium Times also found members of the IMN wanting for the death of one Corporal Dan Yakubu of the Nigerian army and recommended those found culpable in the killing of the officer for prosecution.

“Still, in a damning verdict, the panel said the force deployed by the army against the Shi’ite was “disproportionate”.

Buhari, Osinbajo Meet Service Chiefs Over Security Threats

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday met behind closed-doors with the nation’s security chiefs.

The meeting, our correspondent learnt, reviewed the military operations in the troubled Niger Delta region and the ongoing anti-terrorism war in the North East.

Security chiefs who attended the meeting included the Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar; Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ibas; Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura; Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Mr. Ayo Oke; and the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Defence, Brig-Gen. Mansur Dan Ali (retd.); National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Munguno (retd.); Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari.

They did not speak with journalists at the end of the meeting that lasted over three hours.

Olonisakin quickly moved to his waiting car as he came out of the venue of the meeting.

When Buratai was approached for comment, he directed journalists to the CDS who had already gone out of the premises.

The Presidency did not issue any official statement on either the agenda or outcome of the meeting.

Nigerian Army Dismisses Allegations Of Corruption Against Buratai

The Nigerian Army says its attention has been drawn to another round of campaign of calumny against the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai and his family by some unscrupulous elements.

It said such claims were contained in a report titled “Revealed: Buhari’s Chief Of Army Staff, General Buratai, Wives Own Dubai Property”, alleging that Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Tukur Buratai, and his two wives were joint owners of a Dubai property that was paid for in one transaction.

Colonel Sani Usman in a statement on Saturday said the “baseless allegations” were not new.

He recalled that in‎ March this year, some groups of individuals under the aegis of “Concerned Citizens”, tried same smear campaign but that to their disappointment, it could not fly, because it was not true.

“Earlier in the week, there was similar campaign of calumny by yet another online news medium, in which among other things, it alleged that wounded in action Nigerian Army personnel were abandoned by the Army, government and the nation which is not true.

“Therefore, the latest round of smear campaign is one of the series of campaigns of calumny by these faceless individuals to malign the Chief of Army Staff and the Nigerian Army.

“Yet, typical of blackmailers and mischief makers despite failures, they did not give up, hence they now found a willing accomplice reputed for muckraking. The online news medium this evening uploaded another campaign of calumny allegedly based on a petition by obviously fake and non-existent group it described as Concerned Soldiers and Officers From the North East.

“The allegations contained in the write up are baseless and not correct. It is a fact that the Buratai family have two properties in Dubai that were paid for instamentally through personal savings three years ago. This, along with other personal assets have consistently been declared by General Buratai in his Assets Declaration Form as Commander Multinational Joint Task Force Commander and as Chief of Army Staff.

“It is pertinent to state that the Chief of Army Staff does not have any account with Skye Bank as alleged, let alone making deposits in the imaginary bank account to the tune of the amount stated in the write up. Similarly, he has not been involved in any form of shady or dishonest transaction, not to talk of contract scam.

“In addition, General Buratai was never near either Defence Headquarters or Army Headquarters in 2013. It is pertinent to also note that he was never a Director of procurement in Army Headquarters as alleged. As a matter of fact, the Nigerian Army never had a Directorate of Procurement till when he established one last year when he became Chief of Army Staff.

“In a bid to rubbish the hard earned reputation and good name of the Chief of Army Staff, these blackmailers will stop at nothing hence all these kinds of mudslinging.

“It is really worrisome that some people could condescend so low to fabricate baseless allegation against the Chief of Army Staff for reasons that could best be described as mischievous.

“Consequently, the public and indeed all well meaning persons should disregard this round of campaign of calumny against the Chief of Army Staff and similar ones because they are baseless and unfounded.

“For the unscrupulous elements and their cohorts, these campaigns would prod the Nigerian Army and indeed the Chief of Army Staff to continue to serve the nation diligently and with utmost zeal.”

Entry And Exit Points From Sambisa Forest Blocked By Nigerian Troops – Buratai

The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, on Wednesday said ground troops had blocked movement of Boko Haram terrorists in and out of Sambisa forest.

Buratai stated this while fielding questions from journalists shortly after monitoring troops’ deployment at Banki junction in Borno.

He said that ongoing “Operation Crack Down’’ had been successful as the troops were making steady progress in dismantling the remaining Boko Haram hideouts in Sambisa.

“The troops are doing very well; they had some challenges in terms of encounters with the terrorists in the theatre but that is being tackled.

“The troops are forming a blocking force to prevent the terrorists from moving into Sambisa or coming out of the area.

“I am here to see the ground forces and how they are doing; so far so good, but there is tremendous operation going on presently inside the main Sambisa forest,’’ he said.

He also said that he was at Banki to confirm the movement of troops and equipment and to observe the situation in the “theatre’’.

Mr. Buratai said the location of troops at Banki junction was significant in the military operations to restrict movement of the insurgents from outside the country through Cameroon or Chad.

“We were together with the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Air Staff in Maiduguri where the theatre commander briefed us on the ongoing operation crack down.

“This Banki junction is a major route that links the north to the south and is also bordering Cameroon; it is also a link to Chad Republic.

“It is a major route which the Boko Haram insurgents have been using to move between the Sambisa forest and the northern part of the country, up to the Lake Chad waters.

“So, it is an important location which has tactical, strategic as well as operational significance to what we are doing in this region,’’ he said.

The army chief said that ground troops supported by Nigerian Air Force fighter jets would continue to hit the forest until the insurgents were eventually cleared.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin, the Army and Air Force chiefs met behind closed doors in Maiduguri on Monday to appraise the Sambisa operation.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Olonisakin, a general, briefed journalists and expressed satisfaction with the operation.

NAN reports that the Sambisa forest operation tagged `Operation Crack Down’ commenced with ground and air forces on April 27, 2016. (NAN)

Army/Shiites Clash:El-Zakzaky’s Brother Backs Soldiers’ Action

Elder brother of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria otherwise known as Shiite group, Sheikh Ibraheem Yaqoob El-Zakzaky, Muhammad Sani Yaqoob, yesterday said he is very happy with the actions taken by the Nigerian Army in the last December clash between the Army and the Shi’ites in Zaria.

Muhammad Sani Yaqoob, made this submission at the ongoing Judicial Commission of inquiry probing the clash in Kaduna on Monday.

He continued when he said, the Nigerian Army would have been useless if they had made a u-turn on the spot of the Zaria clash where the members of the Shi’ites group barricaded the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai.

Muhammad, who spoke in Hausa told the gathering that he shared the same father with El-Zakzaky, but different mothers. He said there was no clash between him and El-Zakzaky while growing up except that he has different ideology.

He said El-Zakzaky is 4th child in the family of 16, describing him as very sharp and intelligent.

Muhammad Sani Yaqoob who is also the Chairman of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’iqamatis Sunnah, (JIBWIS) in Zaria said the Shiite group were being funded by Iran.

According to him, “They are funded by Iran. They go to Iran twice in a year and they meet there. I have people who after they come back from their trip do come and tell me,” he said.

He said the Second in Command to Sheikh El-Zakzaky, Muhammad Turi fueled the Army/Shiite clash, with the Sheikh himself as the root cause.

However, he recommended to the sitting that whoever is found wanting after compilation of its report should be made to face the wrath of the Law.

Renewed Call For Sack Of Buratai For The Assassination Attempt On Zakzaky, Zeenat, Murder Of Their Children

This is a second call for the immediate sack of Chief of Army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai for the atrocities and grave crimes against humanity committed by the army under his direct command in the days of December 12th to the 14th of 2015.

The description of the demonic acts perpetrated by the army as laid down by attorney for the family, respected “change” senior advocate Femi Falana are chilling, disturbing and sickening.

So Oku Zakzaky Ahmad killer

According to the narration of events by surviving daughter Suhaila and attorney Falana, General Buratai sent his men to the home of Zakzaky without a court order for Zakzaky’s arrest and out of the jurisdiction of the military.

Buratai’s “illiterate” armed hooligans in uniform burned down Zakzaky’s home in attempt to murder Zakzaky, his wife, children, relatives, friends and everyone else in and around the building. We have viewed videos of the aftermath.

Zakzaky’s elder sister was killed in the above process. Sheikh Zakzaky, his wife Zeenat and their sons and Suhaila survived the burning down of their home, hidden in the “basement.”

Zeenat Zakzaky
Zeenat Zakzaky

The soldiers then went there the next day to check and confirm that they had succeeded in murdering Zakzaky and his entire family. It was then that they found the family survived. The soldiers then murdered three of Zakzaky’s sons in cold blood in the view of Sheikh Zakzaky, Suhaila and Zeenat. The soldiers rained bullets on everyone in there hitting Zakzaky six times. His eyes were struck. Zeenat was also shot at least two times with shots to her abdomen and leg. Both were beaten, and further maltreated.

Near death and blinded Zakzaky was dragged on his behind and loaded in a wheelbarrow in typical Daesh style. They were all taken to secret detention and left to suffer and die and treated as the army so desired, denied their constitutional rights and access to their attorney’s, a judge and their medical specialists.

The bodies of the murdered sons, sister and other family members along with hundreds of other victims were carried away like animal carcasses and mass buried.

Zakzaky and wife Zeenat have since been detained extrajudicially and held incommunicado, denied access and information and prevented from seeking justice.

Zeenat El-Zakzaky
Zeenat El-Zakzaky

In additional shows of power drunken lunacy and radical fanaticism, Buratai’s possessed men under his and the orders of the administrator of Kaduna, demolished all other properties of the Zakzaky and went further to even exhume graves on his sons killed a year earlier, reportedly by Captain S.O Oku under Jonathan’s command and discarded these bodies in unknown mass graves. Some were burned.

This being the same Buratai that is unwilling and unable to accost a single of openly marauding armed Fulani herders who are brazenly above-the-law, terrorizing and killing innocent people in hundreds, burning down entire communities and even firing shots at serving Senators.

Army Shiite victim
One of the Shiite victims of Army massacre at the shia mosque in Zaria, Kaduna State

While General Buratai’s observing his paid duty to defeat ragtag, jungle hiding, heroin addicted Boko Haram terrorists is appreciated. It must be recognized that just the way we do our jobs, so also did Buratai do his. Any military leader is expected to be able to defeat terrorists, unless he is corrupt and compromised as were the past generals who were being paid by the survival of Boko Haram. Even the Civilian JTF used to roundly defeat Boko Haram terrorists when unhindered by Shettima and Jonathan.

We do recall that when Azubuike Ihejirika decided to crush Boko Haram in 2013, he did so easily, killing Shekau I and freeing all local governments under them, before he was ordered to stop and allow them recover their losses. To this effect, we believe Buratai’s salary is all he deserves for performing his duty to command the army to do their bidding against the terrorists and finish up the job Jonathan had done in his last months pre-election; and it is time he hands over that duty to other well qualified officers and is retired to face his charges for this act of unsurpassed bloody barbarism.

Nigeria’s north has suffered enough of God’s Wrath. We are tired of God punishing us with Boko Haram and making us the most disgraced land on earth. We are tired of the extreme poverty, shops burning, kidnapping, cattle rustling, kidnapping, desert encroachment and all other afflictions that God uses to punish us when we exhibit and allow and support this wickedness and oppression of the highest degrees against minorities in the north, Igbos, Christians, Shia and whoever else.

The Prophet of Islam said: “Fear the prayer of the oppressed, even if he is a disbeliever, for there is no barrier (between it and Allah [the God]).” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Please fire Buratai now and let him face his charges and free blinded Zakzaky and his beautiful wife who has lost six of her seven sons to Buhari and Jonathan and is not even able to bury them. This is not the “change” we fought and voted for.

Dr. Peregrino Brimah; @EveryNigerian
