Festive Season: Police Meet NURTW, RTEAN Chairmen In Osun

As the festive period approaches, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State, Mr Adeoye Olafimihan has urged drivers in the State to keep to the etiquettes of the job.

He implored the drivers not to drive while drunk or while on drug, saying the festive period should be without any rancour.

CP Olafimihan said this during a meeting with the chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Mr Folorunso Olalekan and chairman of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Alhaji Olajiire Purpose at his office.

According to Olafimihan, the meeting was to ensure a good relationship between the two unions and to ensure drivers drive safely especially during the festive period.

In their separate addresses, the chairmen thanked the State Government under the leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and the Commissioner of Police who they described as a man of impeccable character.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Mr Tope Adejumo who was also at the event, urged the residents of the state to be security conscious and report any suspicious movement to the police.

He also urged the residents to pay their taxes as this would enable the Government continue its developmental projects.

Meanwhile, the police also had a peace meeting with the herdsmen and farmers in the state.

During the meeting, CP Olafimihan urged representatives of the herdsmen present to prevail on others not to graze into farms, adding that the herdsmen shouldn’t allow children to lead the cows about as they may be not able to control them.

Police Nabs Notorious Kidnapper In Osun

The Osun Police Command has arrested a notorious kidnapper, Aliu Isha who has been terrorising the people of the state.

Isha 31, was arrested with three other members of his gang which included Wakeel Turkur 27, Usman Abdulahi 26 and Mustapha Mohammed 28.

While parading the suspects at the Police Headquarters, the Police Commissioner, Olafimihan Adeoye said they were arrested on the 24th of October at Iwo after they kidnapped two persons.

Adeoye said one of the victims luckily escaped and alerted the police who in collaboration with vigilante group, went after the gang and were able to arrest them.

He said during the arrest, one of the gang however, shot the victim with them which led to his death.

Also paraded was a gang of armed robbers led by Vincent Kelly. He was arrested with two others including Lawal Quadri and Omoniyi Adeboye.

CP Adeoye said on the 31st of August, the gang went to a construction site at the time money was being shared to the bricklayers and stole about N1 million.

He said all the accused would be charged to court soon and thereby, asked for the public continued support.

Meanwhile, the police also destroyed 155 bags of Cannabis Sativa recovered from a Toyota hiace bus with registration number; FID 319 XA at Apomu area of the state.

One Killed As Police, Touts Clash Over Friend’s Death

The state capital of the state of Osun, Osogbo, was on Sunday thrown into pandemonium as some people attempted to set the Oja-Oba Divisional Police Headquarter ablaze over the killing of one Segun Emir.


The protesters said a policeman shot Segun on his chest over an argument at Gbeja area. The deceased was said to have been taken to a nearby private hospital but he was rejected.


He was later rushed to Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, (LAUTECH) but he gave up the ghost on the way and confirmed dead. His remains were deposited at mortuary.

His death triggered a riot as his friends attempted to set the Oja-Oba police station ablaze but policemen prevented them. The rioters blocked roads and prevented vehicular movement for hours.


The Police Public Relation Officer in the State, Folasade Odoro said the Commissioner of Police in the state; Mr Fimihan Adeoye has ordered a full scale investigation into the matter.


The PPRO explained that the deceased was among those that attacked the police patrol team and prevented the policemen from rescuing some people who made a distress call to the police.

Odoro said “we received a distress call that over 50 thugs were harassing innocent people at Aloyunkewu, Imole n fe Alaafia street, Lion Junction, Ori Eeru, Oke Allahu all at Oke Baale area in Osogbo and that peoples’ lives were in danger.”


“Policemen were deployed to the scene swiftly to rescue people and when the police patrol team got there, the thugs attacked the policemen with dangerous weapons. The Commissioner of Police in the state; Mr Fimihan Adeoye has ordered a full scale investigation into the matter,” Odoro said

The PPRO told our correspondent that the policeman that open fire on the deceased has been arrested and detained for proper investigation and that the authority will ensure that justice is done.
