Obiano Swears In 19 Commissioners, 11 Special Advisers

Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra on Monday sworn in 19 commissioners and 11 Special Advisers to form part of his cabinet for second term.

The commissioners are Dr Uju Nwogu, Ministry of Justice; Messrs Ifeatu Onejeme, Finance; Mark Okoye, Economic Planning and Budget and Greg Obi, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Others are Dr Joe Akabuike, Health; Messrs Obi Nwankwo, Public Utilities; Afam Mbanefo Agriculture and Prof Kate Omenugha, Basic Education.

 

Also sworn in are Mr. Don Adinuba, Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, Works; Nnamdi Onukwuba, Lands and Mr Mike Okonkwo, Environment.

The oath of office and allegiance was administered on the new commissioners by Mrs Chinelo Okechukwu, Solicitor General of the state at the Government House, Awka.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obiano had sent a list of 19 commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

Speaking shortly after the swearing in, Obiano congratulated the Commissioners for being found worthy of the selection.

The governor said he was confident that the commissioners and special advisers would deliver, and warned that anyone found wanting would be relieved of his position.

He said that they would be appraised on 100 days basis adding that he would drop anyone who did not perform.

Former commissioners and aides who were not retained in the new administration were issued certificate of meritorious services and decorated with medals of honour for their services.

Obiano Sworn-In For Second Term As Anambra Govenor

The Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano; and his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, have been sworn in for a second term in office.

The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Peter Umeadi, led them in the oath of office.

In his speech, the governor vowed to fight criminals in the state to a standstill.

He said he would tighten security to ensure Anambra State remains the safest state in the country.

The governor said he would set up state of the art hospital in the three senatorial districts, while assuring that major roads in Onitsha Nnewi and Awka would be fixed.

The governor said he would encourage small and medium enterprises in the state to boost economic powers of the people, while assuring the completion of the airport project.

Among the dignitaries who attended the swearing-in was President Muhammadu Buhari, the minister of labour and employment, Dr Chris Ngige, who stood in for Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, among others.

Obiano was reelected on November 18, 2017.

I Am Not Leaving APGA – Obiano

 

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, on Friday said there was no truth in the rumours that he will leave the All Progressives Grand Alliance for the All Progressives Congress.

He said he would never leave the party on which platform he contested and won governorship seat two times.

Obiano spoke to State House correspondents after a meeting he had with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“No. Never. That is totally unfounded. I will never leave APGA. I’m the leader and the BoT chairman of APGA and again by God’s grace the governor and governor-elect,” he declared.

The governor described APGA as a very strong party in the South East, saying Nigerians will see more proofs in coming elections.

When asked about his relationship with his predecessor, Peter Obi, he said he had no problem with anybody.

When also asked if he will woo the son of Chief Emeka Ojukwu who left the party back into the fold, Obiano said, “He is of no consequence, I am sorry to say.”

He, however, said he had extended olive branch to his co-contestants, saying that all of them have congratulated him.

He said individuals’ ambitions could not be greater that the interest of the state.

Obiano Receives Certificate Of Return

Re-elected Governor of Anambra State Willie Obiano has received his certificate of return after his landslide victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

The certificate of return was given to the governor on Wednesday by state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s headquarters in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

In presenting the certificate of return to the governor, the Resident Electoral Commissioner urged the governor to live up to expectations and continue to develop the state.

According to him, INEC has played its part by conducting the election and it is now up to the governor to increase the value of votes by keeping his campaign promises.

Mr Obiano had arrived at the INEC headquarters around 10 am in company with his wife, the Deputy Governor Dr Nkem Okeke, and many of his supporters and top officials.

The former Nationa Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and Chairman of the Willie Obiano Re-election Committee, Victor Umeh, and several traditional rulers and party chieftains were also at the INEC headquarters to witness the event.

Mrs Nkoli Mmegbuanaeze who won the House of Assembly by-election for Idemmili North also received her certificate of return. With her victory at the poll, she will replace her husband, Francis Mmegbuanaeze, who died in August, in the Assembly.

Buhari Commends Stakeholders On Successful Anambra Election

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the people of Anambra State, the governorship candidates, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, election observers as well as security agencies on the peaceful conduct of the November 18 gubernatorial election in the state.

According to the president, “the processes leading to the election and its peaceful conduct and outcome, have shown that our electoral reform is bearing positive fruits. This is very encouraging and I am determined to give Nigeria free and fair elections, no matter which way the results swing.”

He particularly expressed delight at the conduct of the candidates post-election results, describing it as “heart-warming and a renewal of confidence in the sanctity of the ballot which deepens our nation’s democracy.”

Buhari urged INEC to improve on areas of logistics as the nation braces for coming governorship elections and the main general elections in 2019.

The president, while congratulating Governor Willie Obiano on his re-election, urged him to rededicate himself to building on his achievements that endeared him to the electorate and swayed the overwhelming majority of votes in his favour.

Mr. Buhari assured the governor-elect that the Federal Government is ready to work with him for the greater harmony, peace and development of not only Anambra State but the entire country.

He wished the returning governor a successful new term in office.
