“Aregbesola Has Charted The Cause Of Growth And Development In Osun”

  • As workshop on budget planning and implementation ends.

Participants at a two-day capacity building workshop organized on Medium Term Sector Strategy (MTSS), on Wednesday commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola for passionately charting the course for the growth and development of Osun.

The state government, through the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development, in the bid to drive the development of the state through proper budget preparation and implementation organised a capacity building seminar for Sector Plan Development Teams.

Participants at the workshop held in Ede include: private sector organisations, Civil Society Organizations, Non-Governmental Organisations, Community Leaders, Political Parties, Security Agencies, members of organised Labour, members of the state executive council, heads of government agencies and parastatals among others.

The  state’s Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperative, Mr Ismaila Alagbada, who was at the training workshop described it as a step in the right direction as it would surely give direction to every stakeholder involved in the Osun project.

He explained that the workshop has availed participants the opportunity to peep into the visions of the Governor and to know the 10 years plan of building an Osun that is self sustaining.

Alagbada held that any state that is determined to grow beyond the reliance on monthly allocations from the federal government needs to give development a human face the way Osun is doing.

“I am happy to have participated in this very useful workshop, it is an opportunity to join in the planning for the growth and development of our dear state.

“The Governor is passionate about the growth of Osun and we have seen that through this workshop. For Aregbesola to approve this, it shows he wants every stakeholder to be on the same page with him.

“This is what any state or society that is determined about growth and development must do”. Alagbada stated.

Another participant at the training, the Coordinator, Osun Civil Societies Coalition, Comrade Waheed Lawal, who said the workshop has been eye opening explained that sector plan development teams now know the essence of prioritizing programmes based on the need of the people.

He said through such workshops unnecessary programmes that are money wasting won’t be included into the budgets of government agencies.

Lawal who noted that every sector development team needs to fully understand the workings of the Medium Term Sector Strategy (MTSS) for proper budgeting explained that the state of Osun is no doubt setting the standard for meaningful development.

He said the vision of Rauf Aregbesola to develop Osun is crystal clear, hence the approval of such workshop to share the vision with all stakeholders.

According to Comrade Lawal, “We are lucky to have a visionary governor like Aregbesola at this time, Aregbesola is a governor that is passionately concerned about the development of Osun, or how do we explain this? What we have just done through this workshop is to plan for the growth of Osun.

“This simply means that the governor doesn’t want any stakeholder who has something to do with the growth of Osun to work without a vision, that’s why all stakeholders in the Osun project have been invited.

“This administration wants everybody that is involved with the Osun project to flow with the tide of development that is going on in the state”.

The state chairman of one of the political parties who attended the workshop, United Democratic Party (UDP), Prince Adesoji Masilo, noted that it is gratifying to know that Aregbesola is already planning a 10-year development plan for the state.

He explained that with the money coming from the federal government already dwindling, the governor is going in the right direction by planning for the incoming government to be self sustaining.

He said, “what we are experiencing through this workshop happened in Lagos state during the regime of Bola Tinubu as Governor, he laid a plan for the government of Raji Fashola and Akinwumi Ambode which is why Lagos is doing very well today.

“The largess coming from the federal government through the sales of petroleum and other products are dwindling, so Aregbesola feels the need to plan for the government outside oil.

“I have gained a lot from this programme because we are crafting a future for our state that we will all be proud of, I am happy to be part of this”.

Coordinating Director, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mrs Femi Webster-Esho, who is also a participant, said the governor through the workshop wants public servants to always see the faces of women, children, the aged and the masses of the state when planning for programmes and projects.

She noted that the state government wants Sector Plan Development Teams to run a sustainable development plan that will give life to everybody, saying the Governor intends everybody to be carried along in the running of the state.

Webster-Esho explained that the capacity building workshop has brought a new orientation into the minds of public servants to do their job with the mindset that Osun is one big family which must witness all round growth and development.

“This workshop is very important and highly expository at this time. Personally, I see this as a medium through which Mr Governor is telling public servants to see their job as one that will move Osun forward as one big family.

“This workshop has made me to see my job differently, I now feel the passion to work for the people of Osun more than ever before”. Webster-Esho stressed.

Yoruba Professionals Name Aregbesola Governor Of The Year 2017

The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola has been named the Best Governor of the Year 2017.

In a media release, the South West Professional Forum, (SOWPROF) named Aregbesola as the most distinguished State Governor of the year 2017.

The group described Aregbesola as a leader who “created gold from stone and brought out the best in the most difficult situation,” referring to the ingenuous ways the resources of the state have been managed and how he has continued to make personal sacrifices with many of his aides in the face of lean state resources.

“In the year 2017, we have found a man whose energy is unlimited, a man whose vision is unimaginable and his courage in the face of adversary situations tough and cast in iron.”

The statement signed by SOWPROF President, Chief Olusegun Ajibulu stated that “a good leader must be thorough, decisive and intelligent. He must be able to withstand the wave and the tide. He must be able to confront difficult economic situations with uncommon creativity backed with unlimited power of imaginations. These are the exact characters Ogbeni Aregbesola has demonstrated.”

Ajibulu is a tax consultant based in the United States and has been leading the professional group since 2014.

“SOWPROF is an association of thousands of Yoruba professionals drawn from home and abroad. The group has its head office in Southern Carolina, United States. SOWPROF said it had sent its professionals to Nigeria on many occasions through out the year 2017 and was amazed at their various reports on ‘real development of human beings and investment in the future of the greater society,” saying the two represent the most striking elements of transformation and renaissance.

The group described Aregbesola as a ‘man of integrity, a honest icon, a revolutionary and a down-to-earth leader of the  people” saying his moral high grounds are unequalled.

The group said his government has made outstanding contributions to the upliftment of the State of Osun in ways that will impact on the entire South West and the country at large.

The group listed the on-going building of the biggest Cargo Airport in West Africa sub region inspite of the lean resources of the state and the strategic importance of the airport to the entire South West region, at zero cost to the Government of the State of Osun, as some of the most compelling interventions the South West have seen since the days of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

SOWPROF said the State  of Osun is building the airport at the cost of N216 Billion at Ido Osun, Ede North/ Egbedore Local Government Areas with the focal point of serving human and cargo transportation added to this is the historic tourist attraction being the first airstrip in Nigeria used during the second world war by the allied forces.

SOWPROF said Aregbesola’s investment in the industrial park will transform the rural backwater South West in unimaginable ways.

Ajibulu said  “It is heart-warming that the Chinese firm Jiangsu Wuxi Taihu in partnership with the people and government of Osun will have several industries including the Cocoa Food Company Limited worth $600 million adding that the first phase of the project includes industries, the cocoa bean processing, chocolate and food processing, salt processing, cassava starch processing, gold mining and power plants.

The group said the construction of several world class primary and secondary schools, the school feeding project and the construction of over 800 kilometers of roads some of which traverse neighboring Kwara and Ekiti states remain indelible footprints that fall into the class of legendary projects.

Osun’s Debt Burden Exaggerated- Aregbesola

Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has described as mere exaggeration the alleged heavy burden of debt hanging on the neck of the state.

Aregbesola said the N165billion debt being touted as huge debt is nothing compared with the development that the state has witnessed in the last six years.

A statement by the Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Office of the Governor, quoted the Governor as making the observation yesterday while declaring open a one day seminar organised for information officers in local government and local council development areas and area offices across the state.

Aregbesola said if those spreading the rumour of huge debt by the state understand what governance is all about with little that God has done through his government in the state, they would know that the debt is nothing to write home about.

He stated that if the so-called N165 billion debt is divided by the 4 million population of resident of the state, the burden each person out of this debt is N2,031.25 annually.

“To analyse this alleged 165billion debt, Osun is made up of 4million people. Four million residents are here in Osun and this debt anyway has been transformed largely to a bond organised by Federal Government that would last for twenty years.

“Let us now divide N165billion by 4 million people for 20 years. To help you mathematically. This will give  N2,031.25 as cost of N165billion debt to every resident of Osun per annum.

“Ironically, this debt that people are shouting and crying about summed up to N5:56K per person daily. This practically means that every Osun resident carries a burden of N5:56K per day.

“This government we are talking about that puts burden of N5:56K to every citizen of the state, thus feeds every pupil in the public school with N70 every school day.

“That government guarantees security for every citizen and the cost for security can not be determined. That government ensures that roads are increasingly getting better.

“That government provides access to rural areas. That government ensures that Osun school functions at the best form. That government guarantees water supply.

“That government guarantees sanitation. That government guarantees so much. That in practical economic terms, is far beyond what individual must have to give on a daily basis.”

Meanwhile, the governor has charged Information Officers at the local government level to see themselves as information specialists and adequately report government activities on the nooks and crannies of the state.

With the theme, “The Impact of a New Partnership in Information and Management for Sustainable Development in the State of Osun,” Aregbesola also charged the information officers to supply robust information about their communities at all times.

He said government has decided to put the seminar together because it will help develop their zeal and passion to write and make people understand and believe in them.

He explained that the major achievements of the present administration were recorded at the local areas, lamenting that it is worrisome that the progress made by the present government has not been adequately reported by information officers at the local government level.

He said, “Since the creation of the local councils about a year ago, we are proud to say that a lot of developments have taken place in this areas and they have witnessed more of government activities.

“As at today, we can beat our chest to the fact that a foundation for effective administration has been laid down by our government at the local government level, but it’s a pity that it is being under reported.

“We have put this together because we want people who are in charge of informing the people from the grassroots to be well equipped and have the prerequisite knowledge of what is being expected of them.

“We must hear from you, we want to know what is going on in your domain, how do you feel about people not hearing you? The truth is that if you don’t blow your trumpet nobody will blow it for you.

“Our major achievements have been done in the grassroots and local areas and this requires adequate reportage.”
