Revealed: Why ‘Aluu4′ Were Brutally Murdered

aluu4The murder of Ugo, Lloyd, Tekena and Chidiaka now referred to as ‘Aluu4’ is still very fresh in our memory and the horror of their terrible last moments something most of us cannot just wish away, it has been revealed why the community unjustifiably took the laws into their hand – a move they will forever regret!

Now, I have heard this particular revelation on a prominent Abuja based FM station but decided to hold on to get additional information to either disprove or uphold their version of the unfortunate incident that happened on the night of Friday, 5th October, 2012.

Having confirmed it to be true until proven otherwise, here’s an account of what happened upto the unfortunate death of the Aluu4:

An indigene of Aluu was indebted to Ugo and rather than pay up, vowed not to. Ugo who was popularly known as Tipsy, had solicited the help of a well dreaded guy on campus to assist him in recovering his money from his debtor.

This guy, referred henceforth to as ‘Fearless’, was a renowned cultist and accepted to help retrieve the debt owed in exchange for a ‘cut.’

Ugo and Lloyd were close cousins and so they were together on the plan to retrieve the debt owed. On that day, as they made to leave, Chidiaka, their room mate, joined the train. On their way to the place, they met one of their friend, Tekena, who joined them without question as to their mission; not an uncommon behaviour among boys of that age who are friends – a victory for one, is a victory for all.

That made 5 boys who embarked on that unfortunate journey – Ugo, Lloyd, Chidiaka, Tekena and the ‘Fearless’ guy. Unknown to the other four, the ‘Fearless’ guy who was contracted to intimidate the debtor into paying his debts, was armed with a gun.

Eventually they got to the debtor’s house around 12 midnight and a shouting match ensued when the debtor still insisted on not paying. A woman who lived next door, heard the heightened voices, thought they were thieves in the middle of an operation, raised the alarm. As her cries of ‘thief’, ‘thief’, rent the air, other young men around the neighbourhood came to the scene – turns out most of them were rival cult members to the ‘Fearless’ guy contracted by Ugo to help him retrieve his debt.

They immediately took advantage of the situation by tipping the vigilante group in the community who in turn confronted the boys, referring to them as thieves. This led to their beating even as they tried to prove their innocence and explain their mission. It was in the process that the fifth boy, ‘Fearless, brought out his gun in a bid to scare the people around him thereby creating an opening for him to escape leaving the rest four in the evil hands of the community.

More resolved than ever before that the four boys were actually thieves despite their pleas and explanation to the contrary, the mob gathered around and beat them to a state of submission and unconsciousness before they were unfortunately lynched!

NLC, Ex-LG Boss Condemn Aluu, Mubi Killings

Leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday condemned the spate of violence and brutal murder of students in parts of the country.

NLC’s President, Abdulwahed Omar, in a statement in Abuja, stated that while the nation was still dismayed and brimming from the gruesome murder of 0ver 40 students of The Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa State, four students of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) were tortured and murdered in Aluu, River States.

Also, Daniel Chukwuocha, former Chairman, Obowo Local Government Area, and aide to a senator, Mathew Nwagu, on Thursday deplored the killings of four students of University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) and Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, describing them as the most bizarre in the history of the country.

Omar said if the murder in Mubi was controversial and shrouded in mystery, that of Aluu was not.

He described the recent killing of crimes on innocent Nigerians as indicative of apparent failure of our security agencies, saying “it is discouraging that the Nigerian public now opt for jungle justice which in most cases, as in the Aluu case, leads to the murder of innocent people.

“In Aluu, the students were not only tortured, killed and burnt; those who did these to the students committed the crime in the full glare of the community members who were captured on camera.

“Thus, we are surprised that several days after the murder of the four students in Aluu, no one has been arrested by security agencies.

“We strongly condemn these killings as they were most cruel, dastardly and barbaric”.

Addressing journalists at the National Assembly in Abuja, Chukwuocha, a youth leader in Obowo, said he watched the video of the gory killings of the Port Harcourt students and found it difficult to sleep again because of the way the students were killed and set ablaze.

JTF On House-to-House Search in Zaria

jtfMen of the Joint Task Force (JTF) early morning yesterday stormed Kwarbai area near the palace of Emir of Zazzau in Zaria city and arrested nine people including a 20-year-old girl.

Investigation by Daily Trust revealed that from Monday to yesterday, the JTF had carried out a number of arrests and also engaged in house to house search.

Yesterday’s operation at a house very close to the Zazzau’s palace and the residence of Wazirin Zazzau, Alhaji Ibrahim Aminu, caused serious panic in the city.

When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Command’s public relations officer, DSP Aminu Lawal, said there was an ongoing operation in the ancient city to fish out all criminal elements.

“I am sure you are aware of the security challenges facing Zaria and its environs. The operations are targeted at sanitizing the city to rid it of all criminal elements. In raids like these, arrests would be made but all those that have no case to answer would be released after investigation,” DSP Lawal said.

However, residents of the city interviewed yesterday said the JTF’s operations are taking unpleasant dimension.

“This morning they arrested nine people at their residence, which is very close to the emir’s palace. Among them is a staff of the Health Unit of the Zaria local government, students and even a 20-year-old girl. Similarly, they carried out such type of operation at Samaru and Hayin Ojo in Sabon Gari local government.

“On Monday, they conducted a house to house search at Fan Wanki quarters at Kofar Kibo in Zaria city. All these, to our understanding, are attempts to deprive the city of the peace it is enjoying. Even the blasts that occurred recently, those who witnessed them confirmed that the security personnel planted them,” resident Sani Bello said.

Also, the Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky-led Islamic Movement yesterday raised alarm over the various arrests that took place in the ancient city of Zaria during the week.

The group, through it spokesperson, Dr. Abdullahi Danladi, said they were concerned as the incessant arrests may be a plot to bounce on some clerics in the city, Zakzaky inclusive.

“Recent happenings in Zaria have stirred questions as to what the Nigerian and US security apparatus are up to. For two consecutive nights, a plane was seen hovering over the residence of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky at about 4am at very low altitude and almost crawling speed, perhaps with the intent of bombing the Sheikh’s residence. Reports reaching us from friendly sources indicate that the diffidence situation being feigned in Zaria is to pave way for an unpropitious plan by the US government via their Nigerian mannequins to do away with the revered Sheikh. The report went ahead to reveal that a house to house search will be conducted in some parts of Zaria to serve as prelude to their final assault on Gellesu area where Sheikh Zakzaky resides. They have already mapped out where Hurras (Muslim brothers keeping vigil) are staying and have planned to eliminate them using silenced guns,” Danladi said.

Osun PDP Denies Involvement in Speaker’s Wife’s Kidnap

new2508-PDP-LogoThe PDP in Osun yesterday dissociated the party from the kidnap of Muibat, the wife of the Speaker of Osun House of Assembly, Mr. Najeem Salam.

Mr. Diran Odeyemi, the state PDP Director of Publicity, Media and Strategy, made the clarification in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Osogbo.

NAN recalls that some hoodlums had kidnapped the Speaker’s wife late on Tuesday while returning home from her shop at Oke-Oyo area of Ejigbo in Osun.

Odeyemi dismissed the insinuations in certain quarters that the abductors might be PDP members hoping to settle a political score with the ACN in Osun.

“It is criminal of any right thinking person to think that way.
“The PDP, as one of the opposition parties in the state, is not violent and more so, we don’t have anything to do with the Speaker.

“As a matter of fact, we in the PDP even sympathise with the Speaker for the kidnap of his wife by suspected kidnappers.

“And it is our wish that she comes back home unhurt,” Odeyemi said.

Also speaking, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, the ACN Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy in Osun, urged the Federal Government to tackle the security challenges in the country.

The ACN spokesman urged the state police command to do everything possible in securing the immediate release of Muibat from her captors.

$9,200 Online Scam: Undergraduate Bags 18-Year Jail

High court logo

Justice Aishat Opesanwo of a Lagos State high court sitting in Ikeja, on Thursday, sentenced a young man, Michael Opaleye, to 18 months imprisonment for perpetrating a $9,200 Internet scam.

Opaleye, who claimed to be a student of the University of Lagos, was tried and convicted for defrauding an American lady, Kathy Lunsford, of $9,200 on the pretext that he would marry her.

When he was arraigned, Opaleye, who said he is a Computer Science undergraduate at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), had pleaded guilty to the charge of obtaining money by pretence and forgery.

He had entered into a plea bargain with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and offered to pay the money to his victim.

Justice Opesanwo, while delivering judgment, said the sentence would take effect from March 15, 2012, when he was first arraigned before the court.

She also ordered Opaleye, after his jail term, to pay N100,000 monthly to the victim through the EFCC until he refunds the total amount involved in the scam.

The convict is also to forfeit the electronic appliances and other items purchased with the proceeds of the crime, which were recovered from his house during the investigation, to the anti-graft agency.

Counsel for EFCC, Mr Anselem Betram Ozioko, said Opaleye had, between 2008 and 2011, swindled Lunsford by making a phoney marriage proposal to her through e-mail communications.

According to him, Lunsford had sent Opaleye the said amount as part of his travelling expenses from the United Kingdom to the United States of America to facilitate their wedding.

Ozioko said the defendant forged a driver licence, which he claimed was issued by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and a bank draft, which he claimed was issued by the Bank of Ireland, Dublin.

The offences, according to him, contravened and were punishable under Sections 419 and 467 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State 2003.

According to the charge sheet made available to journalists in Ilorin, the plaintiff through its counsel, Funso Lawal, claimed the outstanding/debts arose from alleged unremitted taxes/levies due to the state government from the university.

Retired Police Officer Shoots And Kills His Son, After Mistaking Him For A Thief

gunnA retired Chicago police officer has shot and killed his son, after mistaking him for a burglar.

Michael Griffin, 48, died of a gunshot wound to the head at his father’s home in the northwest side of Chicago, CBS Local Chicago reports.

It was a tragic case of mistaken identity for Michael’s father, Chicago Police Detective James Griffin, according to another son.

“My brother was staying there, and last I heard they were watching the Jay Leno show and my dad fell asleep,” Stephen Griffin told CBS Local Chicago. According to police, Michael had apparently left the apartment and returned through a back door.

“And I guess he assumed my brother was at home sleeping, and when someone came in the back door, he just naturally assumed it was an intruder,” Stephen said of his father.

“At that time he didn’t know who he shot,” Griffin, 47, told the Chicago Tribune. “Then he called me back and told me the bad news,” said Griffin, whose mother died in 1999. “I’m just glad my mom wasn’t around to see this.”

Griffin said his father, who is 77, was a police officer for more than 40 years, serving as a homicide detective and then retiring in 1998.

He told the Chicago newspaper that his father’s senses “aren’t as sharp as they used to be,” but that he is still healthy enough to play in a local basketball league.

“He’s in pretty good health except for some bumps and bruises from playing basketball,” Griffin told the Tribune. “I don’t know if his age had a lot to do with it.”

This is the second incident in recent weeks in which a father shot and killed a son, mistaking him for an intruder.

Last month, a Connecticut teacher shot and killed a young man wearing a mask in his neighbor’s yard — only to learn later the young man he had killed was his son.

Chicago police have not filed any charges in the Griffin family incident. They are investigating.

“I’m still freaking out about it,” Griffin said about his father’s case to the Tribune. “I have two sons of my own, and I can’t imagine how he must feel.”
