By Nofisat Adeoye
A socio-political group, Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation has congratulated the Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola on the 7th anniversary of his administration.
In a release signed by its acting Coordinator, Comrade Sikiru Tijani and Secretary, Comrade Adeniji Yahaya, the group lauded Aregbesola for his unprecedented achievements in the state.
AGF stated that in just seven years of Aregbesola’s government, he has not only changed the face of Osun State but has also succeeded in giving it a global recognition.
“What Aregbesola has done in the last seven years is worthy of note and indelible as Osun in the next three to four decades will continue to savour what Aregbesola has been able to do.
“Apart from the good roads in every nook and cranny of the state, Aregbesola has improved our education sector, is it the school structures, the modern equipment, the Kaadi Omoluabi or the beautifully tailored uniform?
“His successor will not have to reconstruct the roads, schools, bridges and other infrastructural projects he has done, they will have no other option than to build on the Existing Legacies and Mirror In the Future.
The State especially Osogbo, the state capital has been reformed physically. With the beautification efforts put in place by Ogbeni Aregbesola, the state now looks cleaner, neater and beautiful.
One of such is the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo, a former den of rascals that has turned to a beautiful amusement park that becomes a destination for birthdays, picnics and relaxation
About 20,000 Youths were given jobs in the first phase of O’YES. After 2 years, they were replaced with another set of 20,000 after the volunteers in the first phase were trained in several skills that helped shaped focus for the next challenges they were to face.
“Aregbesola has made Osun a better place to be, investors are coming into the state every other day now. Look at the State capital, Osogbo, Aregbesola has kept his promise with the People of Osun. On Security, Osun is the 13th safest in the federation with much more focus on ridding the state of crime.
AGF thereby urged the residents of Osun  to complement the effort of the governor by giving him the necessary support before and during the upcoming gubernatorial election.

Maina’s Reinstatement Letter Was Not From My Office – AGF

The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has denied having any involvement in the reinstatement of the former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina.

He said the letter giving clear directives on the reinstatement of the former chairman, couldn’t have genuinely emanated from his office.

He made this known when the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee set up to investigate the case, commenced hearing on Thursday.

The AGF and the Minister of Justice also alleged that there is an existing pension fraud syndicate made up of politicians, legislators, retired civil servants.

According to them, Maina was part of the syndicate and had a fall out with them and now the group is working hard to ensure that their activities are not exposed.

Present at the hearing were: the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau; the Head of Service, Winifred E. Oyo-Ita; and a representative of the Inspector General of Police.

Group Condemns Attack On Bola Ilori In Ondo

The Ondo state chapter of Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation, AGF has expressed its unreserved condemnation of the unwarranted attack against the person of the Osun state Commissioner for Regional Integration Hon. Bola Ilori describing the act as a serious embarrassment to Ondo state and a serious dent on Ondo state credential of civility.

The group in a release issued in Akure and signed by the state co-ordinator Mr. Olanrewaju Akinkuotu said: “the despicable act is totally alien to Yoruba culture of upholding human dignity and civility towards one’s guests”.

“The APC Zonal Consultation on restructuring was advertised as an open invitation event and all Nigerians were encouraged to be in attendance to share their opinion on the future of Nigeria. Its therefore strange where the logic that Bola Ilori should not have attended the event came from. If anything, the scenario has portrayed the Ondo Government functionaries that anchored the event has lacking in basic understanding of what their mandates were”

“To the best of our knowledge, Hon. Bola Ilori is a Nigerian and that grants him the basic right to be at the event. When you now add that to the fact that he was there as part of the delegation of another sister state duly invited for the programme, then the harassment suffered by Hon. Bola Ilori smacks of arrant lack of sense of accommodation of divergent opinions which is the hallmark of true democracy. This is undemocratic and brutish totally unjustifiable and we condemn it in its entirety.

“We are also surprised and embarrassed by the acute display of lack of tact by the Ondo state commissioner of Information. What any knowledgeable government functionary would have done was to immediately condemn the attack and distance the government from the act even if they are the actual sponsor. The rationalization of the violence by the information commissioner has in a big way escalated what could have been better managed. We sincerely believe that our Governor Bar Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) is not part of this dishonourable act but mere thoughtless action of some overzealous aides”

“This is not the first time Oranmiyan would intervene in Ondo politics. We remember that the same Oranmiyan with the same flag the information Commissioner tries to cast aspersions against in a bid to defend a miscreant who tore Hon. Bola Iloori shirt was in Ondo state in 2012 to campaign and set up structures throughout the state to support our current Governor Bar. Akeredolu, simple search on google would have reveal this to our commissioner. Our information Commissioner should not be seen to be helping the governor source more enemies, we should all promote unity and good neighbourliness”.

“We hereby call on law enforcement agents to immediately arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the attack and their sponsors. The allegations against the Secretary to the state government should also be investigated. We call on leaders of APC to immediately intervene in the matter to prevent further escalation of the unwarranted crisis. The possibility of what this sad event can lead to is beginning to manifest with the condemnable violence between Sunshine stars supporters and Osun United where Sunshine stars suffered two injuries and about six Osun Government buses were destroyed in the fracas. Whoever thinks it cannot get beyond this if no effort is made to intervene would only be playing ostrich” AGF concluded.

Eid-el-Kabir: Pray Nigeria’s Unity, AGF Charged Muslims

A socio-political Organisation, Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation (AGF), the state of Osun chapter has charged Muslim faithful in the state to pray for the unity of the country as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir.

AGF, in a goodwill message jointly signed by the organisation’s Coordinator and Secretary, Comrade Sikiru Tijani and Adeniji Yahaya on Thursday in Osogbo, felicitated with the Muslim community in Nigeria as well as charging them to use the festive period to pray for the peace, unity and progress of the country.

They also charged Muslims to instil the lessons of commitment, dedication and obedience to the Supreme deity, as was demonstrated by Prophet Ibaraheem’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to the will of God, which Eid-El-Kabir commemorate.

The organisation expressed confidence that the prayers Nigerians have offered for peace, prosperity and unity of the country had gone a long way in helping the country to survive the current hard times which was brought about by the previous administrations.

“We pray for a very joyful and fulfilling Eid-el-Kabir. We join all Muslims, and indeed all Nigerians, to celebrate the commemoration of the miraculous journey of Allah’s servant Prophet Ibrahim as we celebrate the great faith which culminated in the realisation of God’s family on Earth.

“We enjoin all Nigerians to emulate the faith of Allah’s servant as a beacon of hope for a divine provision for our great country. We believe that with our redoubled efforts and God’s blessings, Nigeria will remain a land of peace and prosperity. May the Almighty Allah accept our prayers.

The foundation however urged the people of the state and Nigeria at large to be moderate in the course of celebration and eschew any act capable of breaching the peace of the state and the country at large.

It also appealed to all the road users to be law abiding, praying that all Nigerians have a joyful eid-el-kabir celebrations.

AGF Rejoices With People of Osun At 26, Says Aregbesola’s Strides Unprecedented

A social-political group, Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation (AGF) on Sunday felicitated with the people and government of Osun as the state celebrates 26th year of its creation,

In a statement signed by the group’s State Coordinator, Comrade Tijani Sikiru, noted that Sunday, August 27, marks the 26th Anniversary of the creation of the state of Osun in 1991 from old Oyo State.

Thanking Governor Rauf Aregbesola for unprecedented developments his administration has brought to the state in the last six and half years, the group said the founding fathers were happy with the Governor in his bid to transform the state to the greater heights.

According to the release: “Since the creation of Osun in 1991, the state has never experienced the level of development that has happened, (and is still happening) since 2010.”

It further stated that despite the economic quagmire currently facing the country which poses daunting challenges to the financial obligations of the state, Osun is still not lagging behind in terms of infrastructural facilities and social interventions.

“In seven short years, Osun has not only registered its name on the international scene as a pace-setter, it has also become a role-model for a few other states and also for the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

AGF however appealed to the people of the state not to allow some disgruntled elements distabilise the peaceful atmosphere that is being enjoyed in the state for the past six years by supporting APC in the coming governorship election.

“As we mark the state anniversary, residents should keep it in mind that enemies of progress are prowling around to snatch their joy and replace progress with stagnation and a return to the inglorious days of the locust”.

The group equally used the occasion to encourage youths to actively participate in politics and take the front burner in the affairs of governance.

“We rejoice with the Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and the entire people of the State on this occasion and we  pray that the years to come will witness tremendous human and more infrastructural developments and attain unrivalled height among its peers.” the release said

APC Wants Ekiti Poll Reviewed, Petitions AGF Again

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, has petitioned the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), urging  him to review the June 21, 2014 governorship election and prosecute suspects in the alleged “criminal” manipulation of the electoral process.

The party contended that the return of  the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ayodele Fayose, in the poll, who was given a clean bill by the Supreme Court,  was fraudulent and needed to be revisited to serve justice and fairness.

The petition was entitled:  ‘Request for the prosecution of persons involved in conspiring and perpetrating acts of electoral fraud and
malfeasance in the governorship election of June 21, 2014 in a manner other than that envisaged by the relevant provisions of the
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.’

The petition signed  by the state Chairman of APC, Olajide Awe, the party said its present petition arose from the recent confessions on Channels Television by the state Secretary of PDP in Ekiti State, Dr Temitope Aluko, published and broadcast on other electric and print media.

Aluko had spilled the beans two weeks ago, alleging that Fayose gave Ekiti State INEC officials N1billion to compromise its staff without the knowledge of former INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, including naming all the personalities and institutions involved in the election scam that had drawn commentaries in the local and international media calling for justice in Ekiti State.

The party referred to the earlier two petitions dated February 13, 2015,  November 23, 2015 on the same subject matter, saying , “we are
compelled to write this reminder to draw your attention to the urgent need to address the matter to ensure justice in what has turned a
blight on the nation’s practice of democracy through treasonable actions that denied the votes of Ekiti people”.

According to Awe, the infractions include:  unusual militarisation
before, during and after the election that created fears and heightened the level of insecurity to the electorate throughout the state, among others.
“We unequivocally believe that this should elicit extra-ordinary remedy so that the cause of justice, fair-play and preeminence of
Nigerian Constitution are not permanently perverted and to act as deterrent to a repeat of such,” Awe said.

But Fayose described  the expedition as an as an exercise in futility, saying the  Minister of Justice has no such powers to review the
election.
“The Ekiti State APC chairman, Jide Awe  demanding for that is an  illiterate, and a comedian playing to the gallery with
propaganda.

“The issue concerning June 21, 2014 governorship election is a concluded matter which can never be revisited. The issue raised by Awe is an election matter conducted under  stipulated time under the law because it is time bond.

“All parties have exhausted their rights at the tribunal, Appeal Court and Supreme Court under the law.
“When the APC was in government, Segun Oni asked the Supreme Court to review a matter it has already decided because he claimed to have a new evidence to upturn the legal victory of Kayode Fayemi, the Supreme Court threw it out. The court even lambasted Oni for wasting its time.”

Court Restrains AGF, NDLEA From Arresting Drug Baron Senator Buruji Kashamu

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday restrained the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and its ex-Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, from arresting or detaining Senator Buruji Kashamu.

The order granted by Justice Gabriel Kolawole after listening to Kashamu’s lawyer, Ajibola Oluyede, moved an ex-parte filed in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/479/2015.

Justice Kolawole said the order will subsist until February 10 when he will give a considered ruling on the matter.

Giade, who was a former NDLEA Chairman, is now Special Adviser to the AGF on narcotics.

Kashamu, in the motion ex-parted, is seeking three prayers, which include an order of interim injunction, restraining the three (listed as alleged contemnors in the motion) from arresting, detaining or applying for a warrant for his arrest in relation to his alleged involvement in drug trade, pending the determination of the contempt proceedings he initiated against them.

The motion was  brought pursuant to Order 35 Rule 2(1) and 26 of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules (2009) and Section (6)(6) of the Constitution.
