Suspected Armed Robbers Break Wema Bank ATM, Steal N6, 667, 000 In Osogbo

Two suspected armed robbers have been remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre in connection with the breaking of an Automated Teller Machine (ATM), property of Wema Bank PLC in Osogbo.

The suspects, Chukwu Okereke (38) and George Samuel (30) allegedly stole a sum of N6, 667, 000 from the broken ATM.

Okereke and Samuel were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery on Tuesday.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun said the accused persons committed the offence on March 21, 2020 at about 2:00 am at Royal Spring Hotel, Osogbo.

According to the charge sheet, Okereke and others at large armed themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons, attacked security guards attached to the hotel and thereafter broke ATM Machine house where they carted away the sum of N6, 667, 000.

Okereke and others at large also robbed one Gbolahan Adegbite of his mobile phone.

The charge sheet accused Samuel of unlawfully receiving the stolen phone at a paltry rate of N5, 000 from Okereke.

Magistrate Abayomi Ajala ordered that the accused persons be remand in Ilesa Correctional Centre.

The case was adjourned till August 25, 2020 for mention.
