Stakeholders Set Agenda For Osun New Administration

Stakeholders Set Agenda For Osun New Administration

Eight years is a very long time, and if we are to take critical look of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s tenure within the period and compared with other states of the federation, we should be able to rate him above average.

Along the line, he might have done certain thing wrongly in the area of education, in terms of policy implementation, but the physical infrastructure in education in Osun today is second to none. We have very standard schools where children of the poor would go to and have decent accommodation and learning environment. However, bringing schools together to form mega schools is what I don’t support.

The OYES of a thing is equally a good measure to reduce youth unemployment and youth restiveness in the state and that is why cases of robbery, assassination, kidnapping are not rampant here because Aregbesola has been able to engage youth to do one thing or the other. N10,000 monthly stipend may be  small, but at least you would have a place to go in the morning and at the end of the month you are sure of getting something that will engage you for the whole day, the federal government has actually tapped into this progaramme, even the world bank also came to this state to learn from it. In all, if I want to score him; I will give him 70%.

The incoming governor, Gboyega Oyetola has a lot of things to do, he should remember the sentiment people had against him. On the issue of salary, and he needs to convince the civil servants and the people of the state. He should ensure continuity in the payment of full salary as and when due. Also, the retirees should be paid their entitlement.

Oyetola was part of Aregbesolas government for 8-years, they took some of the decisions together, but now that he is in control, he should be able to correct some wrongs.

The outgoing governor recreated Osun infrastructure development and he encouraged agriculture, he did ensure security certainty, he gave almost free education.

I hope Osun state will get somebody like him again.

Nobody is perfect, hence in the area of salaries, the incoming government should make sure full salary is paid. On human capital development, there are two major types of infrastructure which are hard and soft, the hard refers to roads, building etc while the soft refers to education, health and agriculture; so the incoming administration should concentrate more on that. Then, the new governor should encourage private sectors, he should also make sure that tourism and culture are revived. Solid mineral should also get attention.

For all Aregbesola has done, I will not give him less than 65 per cent. Aregbesola did well in the areas of building of roads, job creation, IT in education and particularly social intervention programmes which must be sustained.

It is practically impossible for a government to do everything and the new government to be led by Mr Gboyega Oyetola, is not a stranger in the system, because he was the Chief of Staff to Aregbesola.

The outgoing government has not done so much in the health sector; the incoming government should ensure that healthcare programme in Osun is given attention to the extent that citizens will be able to access healthcare system easily. Also, some of the health facilities need upgrade and this must be addressed by the incoming administration.

Further, the outgoing government has done very well when it comes to construction of major road across the three senatorial districts, but rural roads also need some attention, hence, the incoming government should strive to at least reduce the problem of rural dwellers.

One noticeable problem of the outgoing government has to do with time management, people are complaining about it that the outgoing government has not been showing much respect to time and this must be taken into consideration.

It has been my highly regarded privilege and great honor working under the leadership of an intellectual giant and extremely great mind, OGBENI. This position has molded me and enlarged my capacity for greater opportunities and responsibilities in governance.

Sincerely I am humbly appreciative to Mr Governor, he is somebody who has earned a reputation as one of Nigeria’s best leaders noted for efforts in the transformation of the state in the area of maintenance and rehabilitation of roads all over the state.

Mr Governor is a true leader that overcame and improved lot of the people throughout his stay in office, and the state has witnessed monumental, visible and enduring achievements in every sector of the economy in the last eight years. Mr. Governor had been able to keep faith with the people of Osun in dogged implementation of the six- point integral action plan of his administration.

The various successful intervention programmes of the administration in agriculture, Road, education, health, job creation, peaceful communal co-existence, poverty banishment among others have impacted positively on the socio-economic transformation of the state. Undoubtedly the people of the state are assured of sustenance and consolidation of these good works through the new administration of Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.

Aregbesola administration in the last eight years can be said to be a paradigm shift from the previous experience in governance of the state. He has brought live into act of governance by setting standards that is far above average. This is not to say he is perfect but he has tried.

For the new administration led by Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, my expectations is that he should run a more inclusive government, where citizens engagements will form the basis of introduction and implementation of government policies.

Also emphasis should be laid more on social services, health and education because these are the main things that the poor can benefit from.

Comrade Ibrahim Olayinka, Coordinator, Federation of Informal Workers of Nigeria(FIWON)

The immediate past government has done well in term of human development, capital development, and social amenities; we have seeing much more revolution in Osun in terms of construction of roads in every nook and cranny of the state. I gave kudos to him in that aspect which has improved economic development of the state.

About empowerment, you can see O’Meal, O’REAP, O’Clean, all other programmes which have impacted positively on the masses. In democracy, you cannot satisfy all, but if you can satisfy the majority, you have it all.

Therefore, the incoming government should ensure continuity of what outgoing has established. Attention must particularly be paid to the issue of salary, though it is not only Osun problem, it is affecting other states also, but he should manage the amount Osun is collecting from the federal government judiciously.

The incoming government should also resolve any feud within his political party, so that it will not have effect on his administration.
