There are speculations that some members of the House of Assembly in the State of Osun might have been infected with the Coronavirus pandemic.

The speculations became rife on Tuesday, when the House suspended plenary for two weeks after the state lawmakers underwent COVID-19 test last week.

OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the Assembly complex would also be disinfected during the recess, as part of efforts towards containing the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

But, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Kunle Akande, in a press statement explained that the short recess was to enable members take a break from the rigour of long legislative activities and also assist their constituents in post-COVID-19 economic efforts geared at making their lives better.

He also said that the disinfection of the Assembly complex was a proactive step targeted at curtailing the spread of the Coronavirus disease within the House.

Akande said: “The State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, in strict compliance with WHO and State Government protocols on the containment of the Coronavirus, has also ordered the fumigation and immediate disinfection of the Assembly complex.

“This is a proactive step targeted at curtailing the spread of the Coronavirus disease within the House of Assembly complex.

“While we underscore the importance of the legislature in a democratic setting, we’ve allowed essential administrative work and personnel to run upon disinfection of the premises.”

The House however advised the people of the state to consider using the recently deployed e-parliament platforms to get across to the Assembly during the period of recess.
