Residents Commend Soldiers For Protecting Protesting Youths In Osogbo

Despite the state government’s imposition of 24-hour curfew, the protesting youths in Osogbo, Osun State capital on Wednesday defied the order by mounting barricades in Olaiya junction, Osogbo.

The state government had on Tuesday imposed 24 hours curfew on the residents of the state.

However, scores of soldiers have stormed Olaiya, the convergence spot of the EndSARS protesters.

Reports say soldiers arrived the EndSARS protest Ground in their numbers with with about seven vans around 11:10 am on Wednesday.

The soldiers according to multiple sources displayed high level of professionalism.

The soldiers who were fuly armed reacted to the agitations and complaints lodged by protesting youths against alleged brutality, extortion and extra-judicial killings by operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Response Squad (SARS) in a peaceful and professional way.

The youths due to the calmness of the troops also conducted themselves peacefully just as they displayed the ethos of Omoluabi, though, they were only chanted solidarity songs reiterated the need the for the scrapping of SARS.

Addressing the protesting youths, one of the troops who had earlier joined the protesters with the Nigerian flag in his hand said they were not on ground to launch attack on the protesters .

The soldier said they were with the protesters and would ensure they are safely in the course of their peaceful protest.

He said there was the need for the protesters to obey the executive order of the state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola emphasising that they will not attack the protesters.

It was learnt that the hoodlums would have wrecked havoc on OSBC and some other Government’s owned parastatals but for the quick intervention of the soldiers who later restored peace in the areas.
