Police Nab Suspects Cultists In Ogun

No fewer than 23 persons, suspected to be members of a dreaded cult group, have been apprehended by the police in Ogun State.

The cultists were arrested, on Wednesday, while about commencing initiation process at Ilaporu, Awa-Ijebu, in Ijebu North local government area of Ogun State.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the police command in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Thursday, the cultists had converged on the town from other towns such as Ijebu-Igbo, Ago-Iwoye and Oru-Ijebu, for the purpose of initiating new members and later unleash terror on the residents of Ilaporu as a sign of admitting new members.

Abimbola,  a DSP,  said as soon as they assembled at the location, policemen attached to Awa-Ijebu Division, through technical intelligence got wind of the unlawful assembly, consequent upon which the DPO of Awa-Ijebu,  SP Olu Monday led his anti-robbery team to the scene and arrested the 23 suspects.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Anti-Cultist and Anti Kidnapping Section for proper investigation and prosecution.
