Police Arraign Killer Of Osun 2018 Baby Of The Year’s Father

The State of Osun Police Command has arrested and arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, the State capital, the killer of the father of the State 2018 baby of the year, Okanlawon Kazeem aged 23.

The father of the baby, Okewumi Abiodun had met his death along Gbogan-Osogbo road, at Ogo-oluwa area of the metropolis few hours after the first Lady of the state, Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola showered gifts on his baby for being the first to be delivered in the state in the New Year.

The father of the first baby, Abiodun had showered encomium on Mrs Aregbesola for her good gesture and had eventually left the hospital around 8pm to have some rest at home when the unfortunate happened.

His motorcycle had a head-on collision with another motorcycle riding against the traffic. While the other cyclist sustained minor injury, Abiodun died on the spot as a result of serious head injury he sustained.

Arraigning the accused in court, Police Prosecutor, Ajayi Sunday said Kazeem on January 1st, 2018 at Ogo-Oluwa area, being the rider in charge of one unregistered TVS motorcycle, drove against traffic rules in a manner dangerous to the public which led to the death of one Okewumi Abiodun.

Sunday said the accused also rode without drivers license which contravened section 18(1) of RTR Cap 115, vol. 5, Law of Osun of Nigeria, 2003 and section 27 of RTA Cap 155, vol. 6 Law of Osun of Nigeria, 2003.

The Prosecutor added that the offences are also contrary to and punishable under section 7 (1) of RTA law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused however, pleaded not guilty of the charges levelled against him and his counsel, Barrister Tunde Adedokun prayed the court to grant bail.

In his ruling, Magistrate Adenike Olowolagba granted the accused bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till February 21 for hearing.
