The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Najeem Salaam has urged both the academic and non-academic staff of the state-owned tertiary institutions, to call-off their strike action and embrace the state government stance in their negotiation.
Salam charged the aggrieved workers to sheath their swords by coming to the negotiation table with open minds, saying that the House Committee on Education has been mandated to look into their matters, suggesting that positive outcome would soon be arrived at.
The Speaker in a press statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr. Goke Butika, on Wednesday, charged the striking academic workers to call-off their strike action and exchange papers with the government, on their demands based on the economic peculiarity of the state.
Speaking on this year’s Teachers’ Day celebration, the Speaker urged teachers in the state, to as matter of urgency, repackage their teaching mode and style, with a view to bringing the past glory back to schools in the state.
Salam said the statistics, which showed how secondary school leavers that sat for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in the state performed woefully, urging the teachers to tighten their belts in order to reverse the ugly trend of mass failure.
The Speaker stressed; “The collective poser, which asked what might have gone wrong with our education system in Osun State after the history of long years of success, came the mass failure, should be pondered on by all stakeholders in the state”.
Salaam assured the teachers that the state House of Assembly would always support them in order to have a turn-around in the education sector in Osun State.
