TWO factions loyal to the Osun State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Yinka Adeoja, and Kehinde Orisaguna, a chieftain of the same party respectively recently clashed in Iree, in Boripe Local Government over Ramadan’s gifts, given to the members of the party in the community by a ward councilor.
The ancient town was on last Sunday turned into a battle field when loyalists Adeojo and Orisaguna violently confronted each other, which resulted into a free-for-all fight.
Investigation conducted by OSUN DEFENDER in the ancient town revealed that Orisaguna’s group, which comprises of some chieftains of the party, were challenging the sharing of Ramadan’s gifts, given to the party by a ward councilor.
The gifts, given to the members of the party by ward 10 councilor of the council, Mr Idowu Adeyemo comprised of two bags of rice, beans and other foodstuffs, to stem the lingering food crisis in the party.
Other gifts distributed by the councilor were 20 standing fans, about 25 handsets, stoves and other kitchen materials, which were to be shared without favouritism.
It was gathered that Adeojo, a political godfather in the community, brought nepotism to the sharing of the grains and other items, which was resisted by the aggrieved group.
For having the audacity to challenge the authority of Adeojo, his loyalists were furious and puzzled just as they unleashed terror on the opposing group.
According to an impeccable source in the party, Adeojo ordered his political thugs to wreck havoc on the group which, he (Adeojo) described as intruders.
While executing the order of the sponsor (Adeojo) the thugs, reportedly armed with cutlasses, axes, charms and other weapons with which they carried-out their operation.
The source disclosed that the thugs inflicted grievous harm on some members of the group, adding that the fracas has deepened the crisis between the two groups.
“Adeoja promised to deal with the group and he did because men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad’, on the order of Adeojo arrested the opposition group, just as they were detained for 24- hours” the source added.
He further stressed that the group members arrested on Monday had promised to pay Adeojo’s faction, the result of which, the source said ill likely pollute the peaceful atmosphere of the community.
The said meeting of the party ended-up in an impassed as the fracas ensured and people started running helter-skelter.
It would be recalled that violence also ensured in Okuku Headquarters of Odo-Otin Local Government Council, in which the State Deputy Governor, Erelu Obada, narrowly escaped death.
Investigation by OSUN DEFENDER showed that those members of the party, who were arrested by the police in connection with the crisis, have since been released.
a police source at the State Criminal Investigation Department, said the state chairman of the party, Mr Ademola Rasak, has stepped into the case for settlement.
