The Osun Progressives (TOP) has described as a ruse, the alleged endorsement of Prince Gboyega Famodun as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, as the State Congress Appeal Committee wants to misinform members of the public.

Chairman of the caucus, Reverend Adelowo Adebiyi, said the purported endorsement of Famodun as State Chairman of the party, is part of the impunity and high handedness with which the affairs of Osun APC has been handled in recent times.

Adebiyi, in a press statement yesterday, said the so called State Congress Appeal Committee only completed the shenanigans by which the Osun Congreses were handled at the instance of Governor Gboyega Oyetola, with the aide of his position as a member of the National Caretaker Committee.

He said: “The Appeal Committee, like the Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye committee, lacks moral rectitude to say anything rational on the Osun APC Congresses which they handled in the most shabby manner.

“The National Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee could not have sent them to do the kind of irresponsible things they did in the Congreses.

“How can a responsible committee who should be a dispassionate umpire hold a Congress stakeholders meeting inside the Government House with only the Governor’s friends in attendance, for instance?

“We state that a committee that was not purchased to do a shabby job aimed at a pre-meditated end would get proper briefing that would make it know that you can’t have a consensus where two contestants obtained nomination forms for party positions.

“We note too that an unbiased appeal committee wouldn’t have attended to only 18 complainants out of over 2000 petitions and concluded that it had completed its job, most especially when they ran tails in between their legs when thugs sent by Governor Oyetola led IleriOluwa faction disrupted the proceedings on account of huge numbers of members at the party Secretariat.

“We state that it is obvious that the Congress and Appeal Committees came on a mission to do the bidding of Governor Oyetola, to impose executives that had outlived their usefulness on party members who desired fresh blood to run APC.

“We wonder what is the business of an appeal committee to confirm anybody for any position if not to seal the shoddy job they had done all the way.

“It is of interest that it was the same sets of purchased characters in the Congress and Appeal committees that operated in Osun throughout and that speaks volumes about Governor Oyetola to lord his selfish interests on party members.

“We note that the intention of Governor Oyetola is to carry on as if all is well, as he did after the Congresses. This is to say that the insincere reconciliation talks from him and his faction will not work.

“How far this will carry him and his faction is a spectacle that will be watched by the party members and the generality of Osun people.

“But we are confident that the National Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and President Muhammadu Buhari will not allow this attempt to exclude majority of APC members in Osun on the altar of individual’s ambition as we await a sane decision from them.”
