Observation… A Progressive Construct

A perfuntory analysis of a dominance of the progressive current in the State of Osun with data interpretation by Osun Defender’s Data Analyst, Mariam Ajetunmobi

The winning candidate of the APC, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola received 35.41% of the vote in addition to the required spread of 25% of the votes cast across two-thirds of the local governments.

In actual fact he received 25% in all the local governments, which is quite a feat in a crowded race.

In 2015 Oyo State governor was re-elected with 32.70% of the total votes cast. What matters is the way that outgoing Governor Rauf Aregbesola has decisively shifted the terrain in favour of an enduring progressive majority in the state.

The parties who ran on a progressive platform between them harnessed 60.05% of the total votes cast. This is virtually the same amount of votes received in the state by the Presidential candidate of the APC General Mohammadu Buhari in 2015. It is an indication of the likely trend of the voting pattern in the forthcoming presidential elections in 2019.

It is a lasting legacy of the Aregbesola intervention that he has so decisively consolidated the conventional wisdom in Osun State in a progressive direction.
