Nigeria’s Folashade Oluwafemiayo has said she is delighted with her new world record set at the 2018 Fazza World Para Powerlifting World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The competition ended on Friday and Oluwafemiayo set a new record after she broke her previous record in the women’s 86kg. She lifted 146kg – a 1kg increase over last year when she won gold.

She said “I am happy that I was able to set another record. It was not easy but I thank God that I am able to achieve it. I wanted to make the record higher than that but my final lift was not so clean.

“When Kehinde set a new record in his event, I thought that I could do the same and I set my mind towards achieving that in my own event as well. It is a thing to be proud of and I am happy about it.

“I believe there is more that we can achieve in the sport as our coach has always told us. He believes in us and his advice has kept us going.”

Ukraine won two gold and two silver to finish third while hosts United Arab Emirates ended fourth with two gold and one bronze.
