Mother Of Three Jailed 12-Month For Stealing N15,000 Phone

A Magistrate Court in Osogbo has jailed a 36-year-old mother of three, Nafisat Raji for 12-month for stealing a Tecno phone worth of N15,000.

Nafisat who was arraigned before Magistrate O. A Oloyade on a count charge bothering on stealing, pleaded guilty of the offence.

Prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun told the court that the convict, an indigene of Ede, committed the offence on March 10 at Tinumola Estate in Osogbo.

He said, Nafisat entered into the shop and stole the Tecno handset which valued N15,000.

He explained further that the divorced convict was arrested by the people around the area and was handed over to the police after a thorough beating.

Inspector Abiodun also tendered the statement of the accused person and the stolen phone as exhibit before the Court.

He stated that the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume 11 Laws of Osun State 2003.

The prosecutor also informed the court that the mother of three children has once been charged to court on a similar offence.

Nafisat pleaded for forgiveness and mercy of the court, saying she could not understand what led her to the crime.

Pleading for the court pardon, she appealed that her last child was too young to be abandoned.

The defense counsel, Okobe Najite pleaded to court to temper justice with mercy for his client.

The magistrate, Oloyade convicted Nafisat on the one count charge and sentenced her to 12-month imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine, just as she ordered that the stolen phone be returned to the complainant.
