Microsoft Releases Fifth Windows 10 Preview In A Row With Only Bug Fixes And Improvements

Microsoft has released yet another preview build of the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update with no big features — just bug fixes, really. Build 15061 appears just one day after build 15060.

Today there appear to be just four changes.

Some virtual private network (VPN) connections weren’t showing up in Settings > Network & Internet > VPN, but now they all should be there, Dona Sarkar, a software engineer in Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group, wrote in a blog post.

In certain cases .mp4 videos appeared to be distorted while people were watching them in the stock Movies and TV app, but now that’s fixed, Sarkar wrote.

When some people were going through the Windows 10 out-of-box-experience (OOBE) to set up the operating system, tapping on the birthday field when making a new account sometimes caused a crash. That’s fixed.

And a bug that stopped some Direct3D 9-based apps and games from launching has been squashed, too. “To work around this, it was necessary that your default display resolution be the recommended setting for your system. You can now return your display configuration to your preferred settings,” Sarkar wrote.

As was the case with yesterday’s preview build, you won’t be able to install new language packs in this build.

Also, Windows again might not remind you to restart after you install an update, like a Surface firmware update. If that does happen, visit Settings > Update & security > Windows Update to check if you need to restart your PC.

Another residual issue is that some apps and games might crash in this build because of an issue pertaining to advertising ID. That could happen if you created a user account while using Windows 10 build 15031.

You might once more encounter an error message with code 8024a112 when you try to install this update. If it doesn’t get installed and you get an error message with the code 8024a112, restart your PC. “If your PC appears to hang during the reboot, power your PC off and back on and the install will proceed,” Sarkar wrote.

And once again, while you’re broadcasting a game, the broadcast live review window in the Game Bar might flash green; this only affects you and doesn’t have any effect on the broadcast itself.
