MONKEYPOX is a rare disease that is caused by infection with monkeypox virus. Monkeypox virus belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus in the family Poxviridae. The Orthopoxvirus genus also includes variola virus (which causes smallpox), vaccinia virus (used in the smallpox vaccine), and cowpox virus

As the virus is fast spreading across the globe, 15 Cases of Monkeypox has been recorded in some states in Nigeria so far. This makes it pertinent for media Houses in the state of Osun to embark on massive orientation and sensitisation programmes for the people against the virus.

The state government, through the Ministry of Health, should also swing into action and roll out proper orientation programmes, among the people against the spread of the virus.

For the benefit of the people, some precaution measures people also need to be taken into cognisance and observed at all time. This includes avoiding close physical contact with people who are sick, abstain from kissing, hug, or sharing kitchen utensils or cups with others, washing of hands often with soap and water, Keeping hands away from eyes, nose, and mouth.
