Massive roads rehabilitation has commenced in Ile-Ife few weeks after the conclusion of the Governorship Election in the state where the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola was declared winner.

The dilapidated roads which include, Mayfair-Lagere, Sabo, Aladanla, Opa and others have been in a state of disrepair for over 10 years as successive governments have abandoned it.

The bad roads had always experience flooding during heavy rainfall in the areas, leaving in its trail, flooded streets, houses, churches, shops and markets, and occasionally results to huge economic loss.

When our correspondent visited Ile – Ife,  during the week, it was observed that the rehabilitation of the road commenced at Mayfair and extended to Lagere and other major aspect of the city.

Mr Samson Adelere, one of the project supervisor said the rehabilitation of the roads was approved by the federal government and facilitated by Senator Iyiola Omisore as part of their bargain for his support during the just concluded re-run election.

However, residents and business owners in the area have commended the federal government for commencing the rehabilitation of the road and pleaded for strict monitoring of the project to ensure quality work and timely completion.

An electronic appliance dealer, Charles Onyeaku, who lamented the deplorable condition of the roads urged concerned authorities to ensure the completion of the rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Senator Omisore in a surprise visit last week inspected the roads projects and assured the people of Ile- Ife that the road rehabilitation would be completed.

Omisore while addressing the people said his alliance with APC to defeat PDP is not a personal thing rather in the general interest of the state.
