Man Remanded In Prison Over Pant Theft

A 23-year-old suspect, Opeyemi Adeleke has been remanded in Ilesha prison custody for allegedly stealing a pant belonging to one Gift Sunday.

According to the charge sheet, the accused is facing two count charges bothering on stealing.

The charge sheet disclosed that the accused person committed the offence contrary to and punishable under section 249 [D] of criminal code 34 vol.11 laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.

The charge sheet also revealed that the accused person behaved disorderly by seizing and hiding the pant of one Gift Sunday without her consent for the reason best known to him and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 390[9] of the criminal code Cap vol.11 laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.

The charge sheet submitted that the accused person committed the offence on January 21, 2019, at Agowande area, Osogbo, the state capital.

Defence counsel Mrs. Susan Ayeigbe urged the court to admit the suspect to bail in the most liberal term.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Jafani Muslim objected the application on the ground that the offence is trending and there is need to curb it before it becomes rampant.

The presiding magistrate, M.A Awodele later adjourned the matter to February 12, 2019 for ruling on bail application.
