Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have reportedly killed one man in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

The victim was said to have been shot dead on Monday during a raid by the operatives of the agency around the popular Kantin Kwari Textile Market in the local government.

While there were claims that the victim was a drug dealer, eyewitnesses said he was hit by a stray bullet when one of the NDLEA officials who stormed the area in a Hilux van reportedly shot in the air.

However, the NDLEA Commander in Kano, Mr Hamza Adamu, told newsmen that the operatives acted in self-defence following an attack by some hoodlums.

“My operatives were conducting a raid on a hideout near the popular Kantin Kwari Textile Market when confronted by the suspects and acted in self-defence,” he said.

“I have also instructed that the team be handed over to the police for further investigations.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, Mr Magaji Majia, also confirmed the incident.

He added that normalcy has been restored in the area while the police have since launched an investigation into the incident.

“Under the authority of the Commissioner of Police, Rabi’u Yusuf, we sent a reinforcement to the NDLEA to restore order, but we have yet to take custody of the body until the NDLEA present the shooter to us,” Majia said.

Contrary to the report that the victim was a drug dealer, witnesses insisted that he was a trader within the textile market.
