IT seems that the rattled Counsel of the embattled Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State, Otunba Kunle Kalejaiye (SAN) has not learnt his lesson despite the revelations made on his unholy action of illegally influencing the Justice Thomas Naron-led Election Petitions Tribunal in the state, as he still cruises around with Osun State government vehicles.
Kalejaiye was last week sighted within the premises of Ekiti State High Court during the judgment of the state election petitions tribunal, with a Peugeot 406 (Green Coloured Car) with Osun State government registration number OSGH 85.
While leaving the court premises, Kalejaiye was also seeing sitting in front seat of the green Peugeot car. The embattled lawyer and Naron-led tribunal members that sat in the state, who are still battling with the investigation by the National Judicial Council (NJC), were exposed by TheNEWS magazine of their unholy conversations to subvert justice in the petition filed against the controversial April 14, 2007 election of Governor Oyinlola.
Kalejaiye was among the legal team of Governor Segun Oni of the state, whose election was recently upheld by Justice Bukar Bwala-led election petitions tribunal. Besides, immediately after the tribunal’s judgment, Kalejaiye was heard making telephone conversations, discussing the forensic inspection’s result that was rejected by the tribunal.
The embattled senior counsel was further heard saying that he had again succeeded in thrashing out the forensic inspection which was carried out by the renowned British Forensic Expert, Mr. Adrian Forty as done in Osun State.
While reacting, the Action Congress (AC) Director of Research and Strategy in Osun State, Mr. Sunday Akere stated that the embattled lawyer has again demonstrated his unholy act by freely driving the official vehicle belonging to Osun State.
He said: “Barely 2-months after the controversial decision of the Osun tribunal, I wonder why Kalejaiye could still be riding the vehicle belonging to Osun State, just because he is a lawyer to the governor and not the state itself.
“Kalejaiye should know that he is not working for Osun State, he is only working for Oyinlola and his co-travellers alone and as a result of that he should return the state government’s car, which was bought by the taxpayers’ money and let it be used for what it is meant for.
“The conduct of Kalejaiye has now shown that he has not learnt his lesson and that has indirectly suggested that Kalejaiye is taking himself to be above the law”.
“On forensic issue, Kalejaiye should not forget that the issue of forensic result is still in the appellate court and we are very sure that the forensic inspection will still do its job. So, Kalejaiye should not rest his mind that he had succeeded over Osun matter.
Akere then called on the NJC to speed up its investigation on the alleged secret conversations between Kalejaiye and the tribunal members in the state to make them serve as a big lesson for those likely to take them.
