Jelili Adesiyan Et Al: It’s Never Too Late to Repent
  • PublishedFebruary 24, 2021

The attention of Oranmiyan Worldwide, a Yoruba sociocultural group, has been drawn to a press release by Alhaji Abdul Jelili Oyewale Adesiyan, former Minister of Police Affairs and a renowned political associate and friend of Iyiola Omisore. As claimed by the writer, the piece was written on behalf of other political associates and friends of Iyiola Omisore namely; Alhaji Awotorebo, Hon. Bade Falade, Hon. Shola Oladeinde, and Hon. Sumaila.

Though our respectable organisation, Oranmiyan Worldwide, would not have dignified the writer and his cohorts with a response to their own uncouth balderdash packaged as “press release,” it is important to set the records straight in respect of the Grand Patron of this organisation, a two-term Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in Lagos State, two-term Governor of the State of Osun, and currently a serving federal Minister of Interior of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola.

Jelili Adesiyan claimed in his write-up that the basis for the attack on Ogbeni Aregbesola is a video circulating on social media. He asserted his principal and demi-god Iyiola Omisore was berated by Ogbeni Aregbesola for joining the APC. However, after watching through the acclaimed video severally, we are yet to see any portion of the video where Ogbeni Aregbesola mentioned Omisore’s name. The video we have is when Ogbeni Aregbesola and his immediate family members came home on Friday, 19th February, 2021 to his Ifofin polling unit in Ward 8 of Ilesa East Local Government, State of Osun to revalidate their membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In the said video, Ogbeni Aregbesola emphasised that APC constitution allows freedom of association which enables any willing person to join the party, he however warned that majority of the party membership must represent core values of the party; social democracy, liberal democracy, and progressivism. This organisation hereby challenges Jelili Adesiyan and his co-travellers to produce the purported video where the character of Iyiola Omisore was assassinated or rubbished by Ogbeni Aregbesola.

Reading through the “press release” by Jelili Adesiyan gives an insight into why his tenure as Commissioner for Education in the then Osun State, and Minister of Police Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria remain some of the darkest years both this state and our dear country – Nigeria has ever witnessed. The release shows Adesiyan and his cohorts as a bunch of uninformed illiterates who do not know meanings of words such as ‘scum’ ‘misfit’ among others, which in reality are more suitable for themselves and their principal. A short visit to google or other search engines on their respective android phones would have given them more insight into the life of Ogbeni Aregbesola; a man of virtue, whose entire life has been dedicated to serving humanity. No wonder these set of people who engineered the press release have continued to be irrelevant, outdated, and out of tune with current events around them; they simply lack the minimum intellectualism required to be leaders. The writer himself had answered murder questions before now, while another, from Ila constituency, is renowned for his infamous thuggery in the 6th Nigeria National Assembly of the Federal House of Representatives where he messed himself up; turning himself into a kick-boxer instead of lawmaker. Another among them used to be a “fake” Ifa priest who committed murder in Brazil and can never step the shores of the South American country again, even not on a presidential entourage.

Comparing Ogbeni Aregbesola with Iyiola Omisore is like chasing shadows; attempting to gather water with a sieve, or rather navigating a river in a leaking boat. Young Aregbesola was Speaker of the parliament when he was a student of The Polytechnic Ibadan, President of Black Nationalist Movement, and a host of other positions that can be associated with a great mind he is. Even when Jelili Adesiyan’s friend, mentor and leader’s background remain shrouded, Ogbeni Aregbesola committed himself into pro-democracy activism and human right struggle which positioned him as a top flight participant in the demilitarisation and progressive struggles of Nigeria in the 1990s in Nigeria. Today Iyiola Omisore remains a major beneficiary of the struggles and sacrifices of Aregbesola and his Pro-democracy associates, a feat he does not merit. Since then, Ogbeni has moved from glory to greater glory, scoring many firsts in the process while his detractors continue to wail.

Jelili Adesiyan’s hypothesis that Omisore remain Ogbeni Aregbesola’s nightmare while in PDP and SDP reminds any worthy reader of Ali Baba’s comic shows; a claim that is more of ridiculing his principal than promoting him. A renowned political prostitute that Omisore clearly is, he can only be his own nightmare, especially taking cognisance of his waywardness, covetousness and greed. As an infamous Deputy-Governor to Chief Adebisi Akande, his inordinate ambition to become Governor almost ruined the latter’s administration as a sitting Governor before he was impeached, a record that remain second to none in the annals of Osun history. His lust for power drove him from the Alliance for Democracy (AD) into the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), then to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and now through the back door into the All Progressives Congress (APC). In every party Jelili’s principal had traversed, always, he leaves a trail of violence. The Bola Ige dynasty cannot forget in a hurry how the “Cicero” of Esa Oke’s cap was unceremoniously and aggressively removed at the Ooni’s palace, and neither would the spirit of Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke (Serubawon) forgive “the short man devil” who slapped him in his quest to control the then PDP which he sees as his personal property.

As opposed to the antics of Jelili’s mentor, Ogbeni Aregbesola has continued to remain grateful to the hands that fed him; his loyalty to his mentor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains uncommon and second to none till date.

Conclusively, Jelili Adesiyan, and his co-travellers are hereby advised to shy away from acts that can mislead, misinform and misguide the public on issues that can promote discord among members of the All Progressives Congress and the general people. They should realise that jumping from party to party does not change human character and that it is never too late to genuinely turn away from “the dark side.”

A word is enough for the wise.
