It was also asserted that it was the responsibility that the society owed the elders, which goes to show that the government was being felt in the grassroots.
This formed part of the views of the wife of the Osun State governor; Mrs. Sherifat Aregbesola, on the occasion of the distribution of cash gifts and food items by Alhaja Fatimoh Azeez, wife of the Chairman Caretaker Committee of Ilesa West Local Government Council Area of Osun State, at the Obokungbusi Town Hall, Ilesa recently.
Delivering her address on the occasion, the wife of the governor represented by Mrs. Funmilayo Eso-Williams, the Special Adviser on Women Affairs noted that it had been observed that the issue of health was a big concern to the aged citizens and as a result, they suffer different ailments such as stroke, diabetes and eye problems.
In her words, “it has been observed that many of our aged ones cannot adequately take care of themselves, because of the non-availability of finances and the needs for basic amenities like good food, clothing and proper health care.
Mrs. Eso-Williams maintained that government could no longer fold its arms and watch as these aged fellows die and as a result, would continue to seek ways of supporting them.
“The state government is seeking for ways of improving the health condition of our elderly ones and fill their lives with joy. We also know that doing this will make our elders to pray for us”.
On her part, the wife of the caretaker committee chairman of the council area, Alhaja Fatimoh Azeez described the presentation of the cash and other gifts to the aged ones in the council area, as an omen of good things to happen to the people.
She revealed that it was part of the plans of the council’s administration to meet the yearnings and aspirations of all the segments of society in the council area.
The motivation for the gesture, Alhaja Azeez revealed was in view, of the sense of belonging that the elders would have as members of the council area.
“It had become imperative for both the youths and adults to always care for the elderly people, who no longer have the strength to labour for themselves”, she stated.
She charged the people, to continually and fervently pray for the success of the government.
She solicited for the offer of sound advice as this would go a long way to ensure that the present administration provides good governance that would benefit all and sundry in the council area.
Meanwhile, the caretaker committee chairman of Ilesa West Local Government Council Area of Osun State, Alhaji Azeez Issa Adesiji has also pledged his administration’s support for the care of the elderly ones.
As to why the first beneficiaries were selected, Alhaji Azeez appealed to the people of the council area to exercise patient, as all the aged people can’t be attended to at the same time.
The council boss made it known that the gesture was going to be a continuous exercise.
