The caretaker management team of Ife Central West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has commenced the dredging and channelization of the two major rivers in the LCDA. The rivers are Esinminrin and Opa rivers. Flagging off the dredging exercise, the Executive Secretary of the council, Barrister Bisi Oladosu said, the exercise was being carried out with a view to putting an end to perennial flooding which has led to the loss of valuable properties and rendered many people homeless in the area.

As at the time of filing this report, work on Esinmirin River has been completed, while that of Opa River was still ongoing and would terminate inside OAU Campus. Some of the residents of the affected area commended the council management for bringing dividend of democracy to them, noting that the exercise would save them from loss of valuable properties they experience every year when the two rivers overflow their boundaries.

Besides, Oladosu has enjoined bricklayers and other professionals not to embark on any building construction project that does not have approved plan. He gave the charge during a meeting with surveyors, draught men, carpenters and bricklayers in the LCDA recently, saying the council would soon embark on ‘operation show your plan’ for all the building projects going on in the area.

He warned that any building project without the approved plan by the LCDA would be made to face the wrath of the Law.
