The recent unconfirmed circulated rumour on social media that suspected Fulani herdsmen have returned to Igangan town has been confirmed to be true, as they launched a fresh attack on Igangan town, a town in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

It was confirmed that an attack was launched against a reitred school principal by name, Mr Ogunmodede this last friday in Igangan town.

Though, reasons for the attack were not yet known, a source close to the victim said there was no confrontation between Mr Ogunmodede and the suspected herdsmen before the attack.

The Secretary, Ibarapa Farmers Union, Mr Taiwo Adeagbo, popularly known as Akowe Agbe, through telephone conversation, said, “The retired principal is his relative and it was true that he was macheted by herdmen.”

Adeagbo, a farmers rights crusader in Ibarapa town, said,
“Herdsmen had not stopped destroying farms and attacking farmers in the area despite the public outcry against their criminal activities till date.

He said, “the Principal is my relative. He left the teaching service as a principal and he should be around 62 years of age. I received the unexpected call to quickly rushed down to witness what has happened to him. I immediately called the Oyo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mrs Ngozi Onadeko to narrate the happenings.

Mr. Adeagbo futher explained that, the CP ordered him to make official report to any nearby police station and that prompted him to call on the DPO in Ayete and the DPO later responded and came with two vans loaded with armed policemen.

You will recall that Igangan came to the limelight as a result of activities of the herdsmen which made Sunday Igboho popular as Yoruba freedom fighter.

Though, all seems to be well after the outcry and intervention of different interests and the government, it appears that suspected herdsmen have staged a return attack.
