The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), State of Osun chapter has taken a fresh step to stop the implementation of the increment in the suit filing fees in the state courts, as it instituted a legal action against the state government.
The Osun NBA dragged the state government, Governor Rauf Aregbesola and the Chief Registrar of the Court, Mr Lawrence Arojo, among others before the Federal High Court in Osogbo, praying the court to halt the new filing fees regime.
In a motion experte filed before Justice Maureen Adaobi-Onyeten of the court, the NBA sought an order to maintain the status quo on the old filing regime and suspend the new one.
Counsel to the NBA, Mr Yinka Sokoya told the court on Tuesday that the plaintiff had filed the motion and affidavit on March 02, 2017 for maintenance of status quo and suspension of all action of proceedings and implementation of a circular dated February 24, 2017, pending the determination of the case.
Sokoya prayed the court for a stand down of the circular.
Justice Maureen during the proceeding denied the request of the plaintiff and requested that the new filing fees circular be given to the court, for perusal.
The case has been adjourned till tomorrow, 8th of March.
