Patience Ozonkwo and Joke Silva speak on “Victims of the Society”

“This is the type of movie we should be doing”…… patience Ozonkwor

Nollywood greats Patience Ozonkwo, Joke Silva, Alex Usifo lock horn in the new advocacy lick “Victims of the society by actor and film maker Elvis Chuks. With this level of artistic combination, one couldn’t expect anything less than a wonderful executed movie and this is exactly what we get.

The movie “Victim of the Society” is an advocacy flick done artistically in the aftermath effect of child abuse. It takes a holistic look at what happens when a child is turned into a monster and when the monster is unleashed on the society. The movie explores the damaging effect of abuse and the role of the society.

Speaking elaborately about the movie, Patience Ozonkor says “The story is a very unique one. I felt touched by the storyline of the movie when I read the script. Many people have done stories concerning what people are passing through in the society but they have never touched it the way this script touched it.

Look at the background of the girl in the movie, the foundation of the family, when the foundation is broken, every other thing goes wrong. So the foundation matters a lot.

Poverty, abject poverty can lead one into a lot of things, lack of care from parents, lack of care from government can lead our children into bad things, for example, using their body to achieve what they want.

“This is the kind of movie we want to be doing now, topical movies that will tell stories that would go anywhere in the world, not just stories that portray things in our society but all societies around the world not just Africans alone. Even the white people go through what was portrayed in this movie which is an international standard movie” Mama Gee said.

Also commenting on the movie, veteran actress Joke Silva says “the movie treats on various issues that affect our society such as human trafficking, the HIV/AIDS surge child abuse and women abuse.

Personally what I like about the movie are the topics the movie bothers on, because you know, when one form of abuse is left unchecked, it always leads to more abuses and it keeps going on and on like that and this is what happens in our present day society”

The producer Elvis Chuks   became popular with his roles in numerous Nollywood flicks and soap opera such as, Superstory.  He is one of the very few to have studied motion pictures outside the shores of this country, where he bagged an advanced diploma in filmmaking. Born in Abia state, he started his movie career when he featured in “Tales by Moonlight” “sweet and sour” and other sitcoms.

When asked who the target audience is, Elvis said “the movie is a movie for the society and it is not for Nigeria alone but for the whole of Africa, according to reports 75% of people in the world have being a victim of one abuse or the other. I am very passionate about this movie because the message cuts across the social classes in our society and the world over”

“Victims of the society” paints a picture of a growing child from a remote area who constantly witnesses the abuse of his mother by his drunken father and he has to come to terms with his two younger sisters who hawk on the street for survival. This movie is intended to sensitize people on the dangers of child neglect, child abuse and women abuse.

Community-based Associations, Agent Of Development – Aregbesola

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has identified community-based associations, as an agent through which rapid development could be brought to communities in the state.

He made this known in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Council Area of the state on Saturday, while speaking at the 20th edition of Iragbiji Day celebration and launching of the town’s N100 million Development Fund, saying that though, government is the primary agent of development, people must always look up to support the government, for the development of communities.

On the significance of the event, the governor stated that the coming together of sons and daughters of a community, has positive sociological and economic effect on the community and the state in general, adding that it was an opportunity to reunite friends, acquaintances, relations and also an avenue to strengthen the bond of unity, as well as providing ample opportunities for community development.

According to him, “One of the ways to bring rapid development to our community is through community-based association. In the past, the major development used to come through help from community associations; schools, hospitals and town halls were provided through community associations. Many of our leaders went to school through community associations, which gave them scholarships and it is good that this is being revived.”

“This is not an advocacy for government to abrogate from its responsibilities. The government is still the primary agent of development and the people must always look up to it to perform their responsibilities”, the governor stated.

Aregbesola noted that the state government has included Iragbiji in its developmental programmes, saying; “the community is benefiting from our flood control programme; it will also benefit from new public schools that are being constructed across the state and it will benefit from our massive urban renewal and road construction”.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, who was the chief host of the event, said the significance of the effect was an effort by the community, to call on its sons and daughters and other well-wishers, to support its drive for economic development of the community and the state in general, as the government could not do everything for the community.

He said: “This is a way of supporting government in its programmes. It is like replicating at the mini level, what our government is doing in the community. I am proud to say that the community is supporting the government programmes in all areas”.

Enjoining the people of the community to key-in to the six-point integral action plan of the present administration in the state, especially in the area of environmental sanitation, Oyetola challenged the people of the area, to ensure that their environments are made clean and cultivate the habit of cleanliness.

He noted: “In terms of cleanliness, some areas of concern are being addressed and this is an opportunity for us to ensure that our environment is made clean, we should key-in to the concept of O’CLEAN that is being anchored at the state level”.

The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Najeem Salaam, in his own address, called on the people of the community and the state in general, to support the government and be patient, with a view to ensuring that Aregbesola administration of achieved its desired goals of developing the state.

The Aragbiji of Iragbiji; Oba Abdul-Rasheed Olabomi then urged the people of the community, to key-in into the programmes of the government and desist from destroying government properties by ensuring environmental cleanliness.

Kogi Police Delay Osun Deputy Governor

For the second time in two months, the men of  Nigeria Police Force in Kogi State capital, Lokoja, humiliated Osun State government by preventing the deputy governor of the state, Otunba (Mrs) Grace Laoye-Tomori from entering Lokoja Stadium, venue for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) gubernatorial campaign of Alhaji Abubakar Audu, on Sunday.

It was also revealed that the convoys of the six ACN governors had earlier entered into the stadium, but immediately the state deputy governor’s convoy arrived the entrance of the stadium, the police officer gave an order to shut the gate inspite of the presence of police escorts and security men in her convoy.

The officer in question, who insisted that the deputy governor must get out of her vehicle before she could be allowed into the stadium, was said to be acting on an order from above.

It took the intervention of other security men, who came out of the stadium to call the officer to order, before the deputy governor and her entourage were allowed into the campaign venue.

While the humiliation lasted, Otunba Grace Laoye-Tomori remained unperturbed, as she remained calm inspite of the provocation by the police officer.

Koga Entertainment is staging a concert that has something for everyone. It is a departure from what is obtainable in concerts in Nigerian entertainment industry as most concerts only carter for hip hop and youth market.
‘ We are doing Top10 MICS for many reasons, long before now, some of us who are old enough still have memories of Lekki Sun Splash and other concerts at open venues where people enjoyed themselves, feel safe and look forward to the next edition.
We are trying to recreate the memory of good old days with the infusion of contemporary offerings. Aside this, we are also trying to create a concert where everybody will have a sense of belonging. We are tired of events where only hip hop audience would be catered for. We want an event where fans of different genres of music could mix and experience the thrill of live performances of leading lights in different genres.
Aside these two reasons, we figured that fans of these artistes are the people on the street who cannot afford to pay the exorbitant amount some concerts charge and just like people have tagged Top 10 MICS, ’ it is a concert of the people, for the people and by the people’.
