Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has tasked both elected and appointed political functionaries in the state, to emulate Honourable Rotimi Makinde in his efforts to spread dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
Makinde, member of House of Representatives representing Ife Federal Constituency had, last Sunday, held a prayer session and reception for his admirers, supporters and Action Congress of Nigeria members from far and near.
Aregbesola who was represented by his deputy, Otunba (Mrs) Titi Laoye-Tomori, launched some tricycles tagged ‘Keke Maiyegun’ while other items like motorcycles, driers, generators, grinding machines pressing irons etc were also distributed to some lucky beneficiaries of the programme.
Senator Jide Omoworare, representing Ife/Ijesa Senatorial District in the senate was on hand to lend a helping hand to the deputy-governor who represented the governor.
The governor who enjoined all and sundry to be patient said the citizenry has not seen anything yet, adding that by the time the execution of his programmes attain full gear, the state would almost be incomparable among the comity of states in Nigeria.
He noted that the day’s distribution of various items showed that Rotimi is one of the selfless, bold and courageous politicians of our time.
“Some people were there for seven and a half years, what did they achieves? They were busy feathering their nests.
“It is noteworthy that Makinde who has not spent two months in the National Asembly is coming up with such visible dividends of democracy. It is worthy acknowledging,” the governor said.
In his statement, Makinde said he, right from childhood, has been having passion for reduction of poverty in the society.
“I thank God. I thank my mentor and political leader, Ogbeni Aregbesola, without whose tenacity purpose to pursue and secure judgment, today’s event would not have been a reality. Thank you sir,” he said.
He appealed to those who were yet to benefit from his benevolence not to bicker as their own time would soon come.
The venue was electrified with joy at the sight of ‘Keke Maiyegun’ which would complement commercial motorcycle-riding in the ancient town.
Dignitaries on the occasion included wife of Osun State governor, Alhaja Sherifat Aregbesola, Honourable Gafar Amere, Honourable Nathaniel Agunbiade, Hon Ajibola Famurewa, Hon Tunji Ajao, Hon Ayo Omidiran, Alhaji Fatai Diekola, Hon Sunday Akere, Barrister Ajibola Bashir and Hon Lekan Omidiora and Hon Molade Binuyo.
Others are Otunba JMK Ogunkeyede, Mr Dele Ogunshakin, Mr Kola Olabisi, Mr Kayode Ola-Asherifa, Temilade Olokungboye, Prince Wale Adedoyin, Mr Gbenga Fayemiwo, Mr Kole Akinrinade, Professor Awogbade, Alhaji Muraina Iyiola, Edler Peter Babalola, Mr Biyi Odunlade and Prince Gboyega Famodun.
Staff of NNPC and artistes of all shades were also in attendance.
