Politicians in Ekiti State have been warned against inciting some indigenes of the state against the government. The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye, warned the politicians in a press statement he issued in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, saying that the state government would not allow anybody or party to trigger crisis in the state.
Afuye alleged that an unnamed politician was planning to use rallies as opportunities to incite residents of the state against the government, vowing that this would be resisted. He stated that the government was not against any rally organised within the ambit of the law. The statement read, “The attention of Ekiti State government has been drawn to the activities of some disgruntled politicians in the state who have perfected plans to incite the populace against the state government. “These politicians led by one of their kind who had in the past been identified with criminality and unconventional practices are on the prowl again to create the impression that the people of the state are not at peace with the state government. “The state government would not look the other way and allowed criminals in the name of politics to create an atmosphere of insecurity and also set one section of the state against another.
“Before the politician’s foray into the politics , the state used to be the most peaceful state in the country and his entrance into the politics was marked with all sorts of violence before the Kayode Fayemi administration brought peace back to the politics of the state.
“The politician’s present occupation of organising rallies to foment trouble and set the people against the government would be resisted and the full weight of the law brought on anyone who runs foul of the law of the land.
“The state government is not against anyone playing politics within the ambit of the law but would not allow anyone to use the opportunity of the liberal democracy to jeopardise the peace of the state.
“Security agencies are being put on alert to deal with any act of lawlessness perpetrated by anyone no matter his status in the society.”
