The President of Osun New Era Lions Club, Oluomo Sunday Akere has pledged the commitment of the club to improving a lot of the less privileged in the state of Osun within the period of his leadership.

He disclosed this while presenting his acceptance speech after his investiture as the 4th New Century President of the club on Sunday at the Aurora Event Centre in Osogbo.

He disclosed that the club intention for the year is to organise free eye surgery for people suffering one form of vision impairment or the other, as well as give out free eyeglasses to correct those suffering from eye diseases.

Akere stressed the fact that government alone cannot solve the myriads of problems facing the society; hence, there is the need for service-oriented clubs to join government to make the society a better place for everyone to live and thrive.

He added that there is the need to reduce hunger in the society and the club intends to provide periodic food items to the needy in selected locations in the state.

“We realised that government alone cannot provide all the need of the society and we have decided that for this Lions year, apart from the free eye surgery we intend to organise and free eyeglasses distribution, we have also concluded plans to provide borehole for free public schools in the state to improve hygienic practice among students in public schools.

We believe and hope that our DG would consider our public schools for the renovation project of the club and also in other areas that could be of benefit to the downtrodden in our society”, the new president pleaded.

The District Governor of the club district 404 B2, Lion Ayobola Samuel disclosed that the club had been serving humanity for the past 100 years relentlessly and it is more dedicated to the cause ever than before, stressing that club area of intervention for 2017/2018 includes; vision, diabetes, relieving hunger, paediatric cancer and environmental protection.

He, then, urged the guests who are service oriented to join the club in order to serve humanity and be part of the success story of the Lions Clun International.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Investiture Committee, Lion Ayodeji Osundiran attributed the success of the club
