Civil Defence Apprehend Five Suspected Oil Vandals In Lagos

The marine and anti-vandal team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lagos State have arrested suspected oil vandals.

It was gathered that they were allegedly trying to smuggle petroleum products to the Benin Republic.

The five suspects – Israel Oluwayemi (35), Issa Quadri (49), Matthew Ayobami (29), Altra Suwesa (40) and Adedoyin Elikena (52) – were arrested at the Oniru beach.

One big boat, 119 drums loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 38 empty drums, two pumping machines and one 60hp engine were recovered during the operation.

This was contained in a statement by the command’s spokesman Seun Abolurin said the operation was led by the head of the anti-vandal unit, Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Adegbayibi Adebayo, and supported by Deputy Commandant Ayo Agoro.

The statement added, “The Commandant, Eweka Okoro, has ordered the intelligence department to begin an investigation into the matter while seized products have been evacuated to the state command at Alausa, Ikeja.

“The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has also been contacted for proper evacuation of the products because of its inflammable nature.”
