Buhari Appoints Rufai Ahmad As DG, National Intelligence Agency

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Ahmed Rufai Abubakar as the substantive Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

The President’s approval was contained in a statement issued his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.

Until his appointment, Abubakar was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs/International Relations.
Abubakar, a retired career Foreign Service officer, had extensive experience working with the United Nations (UN) in peace support operations, the mediation process, preventive diplomacy and good offices, as well as the promotion of good governance and respect for the rule of law and human rights

The new NIA DG also briefly served as Senior Adviser at the Multinational Joint Task Force, with headquarters in Ndjamena, Chad, before his appointment as SSAP.

Abubakar holds a B.A degree in French Language and Literature, and an M.A degree in Francophone Maghrebian Literature, both from Bayero University, Kano, northern Nigeria.

The statement by Mr Adesina says Abubakar’s appointment is with immediate effect.

Similarly, the official Twitter handle of the President, @NGRPresident also confirmed Abubakar’s appointment by the President.
