Osun State Government has declared Alhaja Awawu Oyebamiji Asindemade as the new state President of National Association of Market Women and Men in the state.

The deputy governor, who decorated Alhaja Asindemade as the new Iyaloja of Osun State, implored the new president to discharge her duties effectively and not to betray the confidence reposed in her by all market women and men in the state.
Laoye –Tomori, on the occasion of the decoration of the new Iyaloja, commended all market women and men for their unalloyed support for the programmes of the new administration in the state, especially as related to the 90-day emergency environmental sanitation exercise as declared by the governor in the state.

The deputy governor affirmed that the state government has paid the Nigeria Railway Corporation for the commencement of the exercise and the programme would kick-start in the state very soon.
While giving an assurance that the current administration in Osun State will not relent in its effort to put the state’s economy on a sound footing, Laoye-Tomori urged the market association to ensure support for the administration in the state.
Earlier, Alhaja Asindemade had declared the governor and his deputy as patron and matron of the association

  1. It is another error of judgement if it is true or it is mischievious of the publisher of Osun Defender to have written that the State Government has declared somebody as the Iyaloja of Market men and women association of Osin State. It is pertinent to bring to fore that such imposed responsibility is not specified in the constitution of the federal republic of nigeria nor was it in the manifesto of ACN. From the foregoing we can start asking these question. What is the employer/employee relationship that exists between the association and the government? Are other associations leadership for repairers, plumbers, tailors etc. enjoy the same declarative as the market association.

We have to be careful because NURTW that painted Oyo state with killing and maiming of themselves and innocent members of the public had the government tacit declarative recognition which became an albatros for that gpovernment. I am of the opinion that government acceptance of the leadership as elected or appointed by the association would have been better than using the word ” declared ” as if the government imposed or conducted an election through its election machinery to emerge this leadership.

If the government wanted to court the numerical strengh of the association for future election benefits or as an emerging food basket where the government wants its agricultural investments to bring out results in terms of timely havesting , transportation, pricing, preservation and optimal returns on those investment the issue of declaring somebody by the government could boomerang.

It will be wrong even to use the word approved because good as it may be today one would not be surprised to see some other ambitious member who wants to be Iyaloja starts scheming and may result in the accusation that the government was the one creating division within the association.

I wish to congratulate the Iyaloja if she was truely elected by the association in a free and fair election conducted by the use of the association constitution.
