In line with his promise to relieve parents and students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) of their heavy burden and promote functional education, Osun State governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has reduced the outrageous tuition fees of the institution.
Aregbesola, on Tuesday approved the tuition fees downward review between 42 and 52 percent being paid by the students of the state-owned tertiary institutions.
According to a press statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere, the reduction takes effect from September 19, 2011.
The state government has also ordered immediate refund to the students who had paid the old exorbitant tuition fees.
Aregbesola also pledged to refund all the excess funds belonging to UNIOSUN, which were deducted from the tuition fees and kept in a savings account.
Students of the Faculty of Law and their counterparts in Medicine would pay a flat tuition of N100, 000 each against the N195, 000 being charged by the defunct administration of the ousted Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
The tuition fees of the students offering non-science courses has been reduced from the sum of  N130, 000 to N75, 000, representing 42 percent reduction.
Fifty-two percent reduction has reflected on the tuition fees of students offering science courses, as they are to henceforth pay N75,000 instead of the sum N155, 000.
Akere further said the reduction became imperative for the state government in order to bring succour to the students of the state-owned university and their poor parents.
The commissioner maintained that Aregbesola’s administration is poised to promote functional education and make it accessible for the children of the masses.
He however reiteratedthat the reduction in the tuition fees would not in any way affect the quality and academic excellence of the institution.

Kudos to the considerate Gov. ( Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola).for considering the less privileged not only in Osun State, but in Nigeria at large.
I think the reduction will develop the interest of many Nigeria student in choosing UNIOSUN as their 1th & 2nd choice, unlike before that people doesn’t want to choose the school.
So I’m imploring our amiable governor not to relax but to strive more and see that he embark on developmental project and finish it. because YORUBA says ” Aa kin ki alaseku pe oku ise afi eni ba se ise na dopin. Mind you, your Excellency 2014. Osun people are WATCHING …. .. .. Osun o ni baje lori ti yin, yio tun bo ma dara si niooooo

NON INDIGENES SHOULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED.

He has a good job but why do he want to turn the non indigens to slaves. Its unfair and bad jugdement

why is it only indegies i don’t praise him at all that’s not fair.is it only indegies attending the sch.

It is right to subsidise the resident students of Osun state tuition fees by Ogbeni and it must not be misconstrued to be non-indegenes. It should not matter where you originate from in Nigeria as long as you are bonafide residents of Osun state at least 12 months before the commencement of your course. However if you are not resident of the state it is only fair not to be subsidised hence you pay more unless your state government has a special arrangement with Osun, so also foreign students who pay the highest This is the way it is being practised in USA for example . This measure is intended to afford more acceptance space to the resident students of the state concerned.

The difference is too much thats wat we are saying 75000 and 140000.And this not USA this Nigeria within the same country.USA don’t do things like that even.so REASON.

      Reply

What do you mean USA don’t do that? I scholed in UK & USA and they do, for example If non Texas state students attend Universities in Oklahoma state they have to pay nonresident fees which the differences could be in $10-12000.
In UK now, students in Scotland don’t pay tuition fees in their universities but Students in England pay about £4000 which goes up to £9000 next academic year. Some people need to know the facts before commenting here. You cannot expect people who voted for non progressive party like PDP in Akwa Ibom/Kano/Bayelsa state to rush to Osun state to take advantage of good residents of Osun people who voted for progresive ACN, what about their children? This will cause mad rush and oversubscription! However, if you want to enjoy the goodies of progressive government then cast your vote for ACN or move to progressive states like Osun/Ekiti/Oyo,etc,live,work and pay your taxes for at least a year then you can start to benefit from the dividends of progressive leadership.
        No to opportunists!

Peeps, pls try and be attentive when reading.Ogbeni has done well because the reduction in the tuition fee is for both indigent and non-indigent students. It was clearly stated in the osun defender newspapers and as a matter of fact the news on osun state university website saying non-indigents student should pay 200,000 naira has been deleted.Everyone in doubt should please confirm all that i have written. Thanks and God Bless Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola

Thank you again our able Governor. It looks like our appreciation has just started. I have the feelings that good things have just started in our dear state. Is it not a surprise that the Governor is doing all these with the same resources others before him had? This is the difference between a man who is ready to serve and a person who is ready to be served. I pray that one day, Nigeria is blessed with Governors and a President who are ready to serve. May God shield you with HIS umbrella of protection and bless your descendants yet unborn. Thank you once more. We are watching you from Canada. magnnette2@gmail.com
