Aregbesola Praises SON’s Effort In Creating Standard Clubs in Primary, Secondary Schools

Determined to make standards and quality control issues a household affair across the country, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, has inaugurated standards clubs in primary and secondary schools in the State of Osun.

Speaking during the inauguration, the state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola praised SON’s efforts in creating appropriate and adequate public awareness on issues of standards and quality.

He commended the body for exposing the average Nigerian on the benefits of adopting standards in everyday life. Represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Wasiu Omotunde-Young, the governor also thanked SON for the catch-them-young initiative which he said, would help to safeguard lives and property.

The governor who noted that the inauguration of the clubs would inculcate quality assurance in the minds of the youths at tender ages, advised the students to channel their abundant energies rightly and be conscious of their role in safeguarding their own lives and those of others.

Earlier in his remarks, the Director-General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Mr. Osita Aboloma, advised Nigerian youths, as authentic leaders of tomorrow, to shun greed and other unhealthy practices.

He urged them to identify with the noble crusade of sensitizing Nigerians against patronage of substandard products in view of the dangers they pose to lives and property as well as the negative implications for the economy.

The SON boss who was represented by Engr. Oluremi Ayeni, a director in the organisation, said the standards club were aimed at helping to inculcate quality culture in future leaders of the country. According to him, standards club in primary and secondary schools would create a great army that would propagate the gospel of standardisation.

Also speaking at the event, SON Director of Operations, Engr. Felix Nyado, stated that when the principles of standardization are applied and imprinted on the minds of the young ones, they would stick for life. He posited that standards clubs in schools was the best way to catch them young and raise advocates and vanguards of standards for the future.

The Commissioner, Ministry for Women and Children Affairs, Alhaja Lateefat Giwa, lauded SON and all relevant stakeholders for this initiative in entrenching in the children and youths the culture of quality and standards in all commercial transactions while imploring them to champion the cause by preaching the gospel to their parents, friends and families about the importance of standards in everyday life

Some of the students who spoke during the event said they have been exposed to standards and its benefits to the Nigerian economy, pointing out that the initiative has also exposed them on ways to improve standards in the country. Our reporter gathered that over 2500 participants attended the event.
