The Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, on Wednesday said the state would source about N2bn monthly to pay the new minimum wage.

He restated his government’s willingness to be the first to pay the new national minimum wage to workers.

He said the state would boost the internally generated revenue of the state for that purpose.

Obiano stated this in a meeting with some media executives in his residence at Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

He said the implementation of the new national minimum wage would add over N2bn wage bill on the state government’s monthly expenses.

Obiano said he would pay the new minimum wage as he promised workers in the state during the electioneering.

He stressed the need for improvement in government’s IGR as it would aid the government in carrying out other important expenses for enhanced development.

Obiano said after tackling the implementation of the new minimum wage, he would do more interventions for the state-owned radio station, the Anambra Broadcasting Service.
