Amechi Insists Igbo Presidency In 2030 Is Non-Negotiable
The President Ohanaeze Ndigbo of the 19 Northern States, has made a statement that the dominance of a Nigerian from the Igboland into the Presidency in 2023 is non-negotiable.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a lawyer, said that the agitations in the South East were caused by high-level of in¬justice and marginalization.
Amechi spoke in Minna, Niger State on Sunday after a meeting of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo from the 19 Northern States.
According to him, to douse tension in the South East, the re¬gion should be allowed to pro¬duce the country’s President in 2023.
He said: “Nigerians should support the Igbo Presidency in 2023 as the only way to douse the growing tensions in the South East. The region has been marginalized and neglected for too long.”
Amaechi noted that the ag¬itations by the Indigenous Peo¬ples of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualisa¬tion of Sovereign State of Bia¬fra (MASSOB) were borne out of injustice.
“Virtually every Nigerian agrees that there is injustice in the country, especially to the South East region, but what every Nigerian has not agreed is what to do to address the in¬justice.
“Some have called for re¬structuring, others want devo¬lution of powers, all these still boils down to restructuring and the reason for this is that one re¬gion has not been recognized as belonging to Nigeria,” he said.
Amaechi continued: “We want every Nigerian to be hap¬py; I want to say here that an in¬justice to a Nigerian is an injus¬tice to all irrespective of tribe or creed”.
“It does not matter where the person comes from, once a Nigerian suffers an injustice it should be a concern to all,” he added.
Amaechi explained that the leadership of Ndigbo from the 19 Northern states were in Minna not only to address issues that concern Igbo, but to also get feedback from all the affected states on the recent quick notice issued to the Igbo even though the tension has died down.
“The meeting would en¬hance a better relationship among the Ndigbo and their host communities, this meet¬ing will help us to advise one another on how to relate to the host community’s culture and give due respect to the peo¬ple that have accommodated us.
Amaechi said that politics would not rule out of the meet¬ing in Minna “because when leaders are taking political and economic decisions it was neces¬sary to weigh the effects of such decisions.
He said that the Igbos would do everything to secure the uni¬ty of the country as they aspire to produce an Igbo President in 2023.
“At the end of this meeting, I can assure you we would be able to get the Igbo Presidency come 2023,” he said.
