Activist Warns Islamic Clerics From Recognizing Olanipekun As Ataoja Of Osogbo

The Committee for Democracy and Rights of the People (CDRP) has warned Islamic scholars and clerics in the country, particularly in Osun State, to stop recognising the deposed Oba Jimoh Olanipekun as Ataoja of Osogbo.
A letter signed by the National Coordinator of the CDRP, Comrade Amitolu Shitu, which was sent to the President, League of Imams and Alfas, South-West, Imam Mustapha Ajisafe on July 22, 2011 said, recognising Olanipekun as Ataoja could lead them to prison for contempt of court.
According to Amitolu in the letter made available to OSUN DEFENDER last Friday, the invitation letter sent to Alfas on this year’s Moulud Nabiy with reference number-ATJ/14/SGB/16 dated July 21st July, 2011, which was signed by Olanipekun was illegal and a contempt of court.
The letter reads: “As a concerned citizen and advocate of the rule of law, you are hereby warned to refrain from participating in whatever capacity in any of the activities involving your active participation, as part of  arrangements  or preparatory to the celebration of the annual 2011 Molud Nabiyy, Ramadan Lectures, Eil-Fitr,Eid-Kabir or any Islamic programme, as this may be Olanipekun’s primary aims of hooking and involving the Muslim community in the illegal activities, which is tantamount to poking fingers into the eyes of the court”
The letter further stated: “This is to caution you from any act that may tempt or prompt you into recognising Olanipekun as Ataoja of Osogboland for singular reason that the selection, appointment and installation of the said Mr. Olanipekun has been set aside as the Ataoja of Osogbo.
“Recognizing Olanipekun as Ataoja will amount to contempt of court which may possibly land you in jail”.
Amitolu, through the letter, further warned Islamic clerics not to join the league of contemnors “like Olanipekun” who subsisting court order has removed from the office of Ataoja of Osogbo.
“We are advising the Muslim community to be wary of an impostor, who is illegally occupying the palace of Ataoja of Osogbo and we want you to know that illegality is not known with Islam, but the law of the land must be obeyed and allowed to take its due course”, he advised.
