70-Year-old Man Docked Over Alleged Escape Of Suspect

Police in Osogbo, Osun State on Monday arraigned  a 70-year-old man, Audu Umar before a magistrate court for allegedly aiding the escape of a suspect. 

Umar was docked on one count charge bothering on aiding the escape of a suspect. He pleaded not guilty on the charge preferred against him.

The prosecutor, inspector Adegoke Taiwo told the court that the suspect committed the offence on April 7, 2018 at the office of the Assistance Inspector General of Police, Zone xi command Headquarters Osogbo.

According to Taiwo, the accused person, being a surety to one Mr Taofeek Abu who is alleged to have received a stolen  Toyota Camry salon car with Chasis number JT2BG22K810589517 valueN1.5million property of Mr Obasanya Busari did conspired with him to obstruct, pervert and defeat the course of justice by failing to reproduce him for investigation .

He explained further that the offence committed contravens section 126 of the criminal code cap 34 vol. II law of Osun State of Nigeria 2003

The counsel to the accused person , Mr Okobe Najite applied for the bail of the accused person in most liberal terms.

The magistrate, Mrs. M. A Awodele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties.

She said one of the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction and adjourned the case till June 4 for mention.
